A very good basic coffee maker. I only have two issues.1. Lack of auto shut off (I realized this before purchase but this could improve the product)2. The hot plate is too hot and burns the coffee very quickly. It brews a great cup but if it sits for more than ten minutes it starts to taste burnt.

I purchased this because I was looking for a simple, full-sized, white drip coffe maker. The product arrived in a timely manner and was in perfect condition. The reasons for my "low" 3-star rating are:Good: A full pot of coffee is made in a relatively short amount of time. The coffee is nice and hot (don't have to put a cup in the microwave right after pouring). The carafe pours well and doesn't drip.Bad: The coffee maker produces an unusually large amount of steam through the top vents towards the end of the brewing cycle (and at times "spits" coffee-colored water onto the counter through the vents). You also wind up with coffee sediment on the inside of the lid after brewing. It's a minor clean-up, but still a bit annoying. The water window does not even closely represent what will wind up in the carafe. My carafe winds up with more than a cup less coffee than what was showing in the window. This is true even though I have a reusable filter (not paper). This leads to my third "Bad"... I've tried three different reusable filters and none have fit well enough to allow the lid to fully close on the machine. Beware when buying a "fits most machines" reusable filter. (Note: The steam and "spitting" noted above also occurred when I tried paper filters.)All-in-all this is not a bad machine if the annoyances listed won't bother you.

In the past I've owned Braun & Krups coffeemakers. Had to replace my Krups after 8 years. I purchased this because of the positivereviews. I figured at the low cost of this machine, I wouldn't have too much to lose if it didn't workout. I was basically looking forsomething in white since most everything is black or stainless steel as far as coffeemakers nowadays. On the positive sidethe Hamilton Beach pot doesn't dribble when pouring coffee into your cup, it's currently putting out hotter coffee than my Krups;however, don't really know how long that will continue? The coffee brewed fine. The fact that it doesn't have auto shut off is nota problem since I make small quantities & turn it off right away. It's not leaking water out the bottom like the Krups, nordo I get bubbles in the measurement gauge. Surprisingly no overly plastic taste to the coffee which is sometimes a problem with newauto drip coffee machines. I did cycle water through it about 4 times before making my first cup. Everything seems well thought out as far as it was engineered. My only complaint is that I felt they could have used a higher grade of plastic after owning several other brands over the years. I would recommend for someone looking for a basic dependable coffeemaker with no fancy beeps, auto shut off, or extra frills. It just simply brews coffee like a coffee maker should with no unpleasant surprises.
