Item Description

Known as a pristine coffeemaker, Chemex employs all of the chemically correct methods for brewing. Its hourglass shaped flask is made entirely of glass, a chemically inert material that does not absorb odors or chemical residues. The Chemex has no moving parts and will work forever, unless it is dropped or in some other way demolished.

The Handblown Chemex Series of coffee brewers is the original Chemex series that Chemex started with in the 1940s. All of the Chemex Handblown series brewers are produced by hand in Germany, the clarity of the glass and fine workmanship is unequalled. The Chemex Handblown coffeemakers tend to be a bit thicker and more durable than mass produced coffeemakers. These units are designed for those who appreciate the quality and elegance of old world glass blowers.

The Chemex Coffeemaker was invented over 60 years ago by German chemist and artist, Dr. Peter Schlumbohm. The simplicity of the Chemex coffeemaker's elegant hourglass shape has been honored for its design by many prestigious museums. The Chemex coffeemakers can be found in the Smithsonian, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art as part of their permanent collections. Its functional capabilities are world-renowned.

Chemex filters are made of the highest quality filter paper. The Chemex uses a thick paper filter that removes many of the impurities that electric makers allow to pass through, making the coffee much more pure and flavorful. It also brews directly into the serving container for simple decanting and cleaning.

Please note: All of the coffeemakers are measured using 5 oz. as 1 cup.

Beautiful Coffeemaker That Makes Excellent Coffee

Yes, there really is a difference between this hand-blown carafe and the manufactured variety; I have one of each. The manufactured carafe works just as well but the glass on the hand-blown carafe is thicker and heavier; it feels much sturdier. Looks very elegant! It remains to be seen if over time the hand-blown carafe wears better. The Chemex method makes some of the best coffee I have ever tasted. I wanted to get away from my electric coffee machine because of all the plastic parts and more importantly the difficulty of keeping it clean. The Chemex brewer is a breeze to use and clean. Make sure you use Chemex filters, place one in the carafe as directed and rinse with hot water. Pour off the rinse water, add your freshly ground coffee and slowly pour over water just under the boil. When it stops dripping just toss the filter and serve! This method doesn't take any longer than my regular electric drip coffeemaker but requires more hands-on attention throughout the process. The coffee is much much better; it is definitely worth the extra effort. You will love it!

The classic coffee maker... love it. Great design and makes THE BEST coffee. We have french presses, drip coffee makers but this is the best. It is a drink and go... no heating element- fill your cup or travel mug & drink it!
