Okay for the price, once we figured it out

I had been researching coffee makers online and couldn't find any that everyone liked (not surprisingly). There are always 5 star and 1 star reviews on everything. So we ended up buying this coffeemaker spur of the moment for practically nothing (comparatively speaking) at Target. When I started using it, I would have readily agreed with two of the critiques I have seen on this site: that the carafe doesn't pour very well when it is full, and that it makes weak coffee. But my wife pointed out that as I used 3 scoops of coffee to make 8 cups in our percolator, it might take more than 4 scoops to make 12 cups in this one. So I started using 5 scoops and the coffee isn't weak anymore. Problem solved. Then I stopped making 12 cups and put slightly less water in - 10 or 11 cups - and it pours better now, as a lot of the problem was when I first started pouring. Plus I pour more slowly.Okay, so maybe I shouldn't have to adapt so much to my coffee maker, but it was dirt cheap and I bought it, so I am going to get good use and good coffee out of it for as long as I can. I haven't used the timer and have a zillion clocks in the house so I don't worry about those functions or whether the clock is backlit or not. We keep unplugging it to plug in other small appliances anyway. Our last coffee maker cost about $50 and lasted barely past the limited warranty date, so I don't envision much problem getting this one to be more of a value than that.2011 Update: It was indeed more of a value than our last one, but it still died short of its one-year anniversary with us. Your results may be better, but don't give it a pet nickname 'cause you might not own it that long!

You can pay more for a lot less!

Again, i read the reviews prior to purchasing and found many people going for the "High End" coffee makers and ended up not being satisfied. My wife wanted a programmable for the odd times she may have to get up in the morning so coffee would already be brewed and waiting. This maker also comes in a non programmable model but you don't have to use the programming feature and can bypass it as i often do. It brews a great cup of coffee, the 12 cup pot is enough for us to enjoy a morning cup and fill our to go mugs. It brews the coffee hot and keeps it hot. The only thing to be aware of is that it has an automatic 2 hour shut off for safety - a good thing for those of us who forget to turn the coffee maker off - but can be annoying on days you are home and may want a hot cup later on. All you have to do is push the button on the right again and it will rewarm. I love this coffee maker and would recommend trying this one before much more expensive models unless you just like spending money.8/18/11 - went belly up today. wont brew, heating element gone. purchased in 11/2009. because of the low price i purchased two so will see how long #2 lasts. wish it would have lasted longer, but served me well for $25. addressing the issue of messy pouring from the pot, if you slow down the pour and even lift the plastic top away from the glass while you pour it will pour ok, but i do agree that it can be a messy proposition if you're trying to hurry your pour. definitely a design flaw in pour spout. i originally rated 5 stars and really liked the product, but because of fairly short life and design flaw in pot, downgraded to 4 stars. again, i'll see how well the second one works and lasts, and, still not disappointed with this purchase.

Good Value for basic brew

I bought this at target on sale for $16 (in pink!) just to make plain coffee I have a higher end espresso machine i use for lattes etc). Its very simple to operate I like the program feature and that the cord stores into the machine. I give it 4 stars because when pouring coffee it seems to spill all over the place unless I'm holding the cover firmly with my other hand. Also because the 30sec pause feature still drips a little, though I mostly wait for it to finish brewing anyhow.I'm very happy with this and would recommend, my only problem is that I cracked the carafe and am having a hard time finding a replacement from Sunbeam. I will most likely buy a universal fit replacement carafe and hope it works out!Update: I bought a Mr Coffee glass carafe 12 cup replacement that works with the pause n serve feature and fits perfect.
