MG600 PLUS 10-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker with Glass Carafe Brewing Coffee at Home Preparing great tasting drip coffee at home is simple but requires many factors in order to consistently achieve the perfect cup. Fresh whole coffee beans should be ground to a medium sized grind immediately before brewing for optimal full-bodied flavor. Using fresh, filtered water is essential as brewed coffee is 98% water and non-filtered water could leave the coffee tasting flat. All Capresso coffee makers feature high quality heating elements that heat the water to the ideal brewing temperature of over 200 degrees F and brew the coffee in less than one minute per cup for the perfect extraction that is never bitter. Preferably you should enjoy the brewed coffee soon after brewing has finished as this is when the coffee is freshest and has the most flavor. A Good Coffeemaker

First you have to know that the Capresso MG600 Plus 10-Cup comes in two different model numbers, 484 and 485. The following comments are for the 484.05. Capresso tells me the only difference is that the 484.05 has additional processing such that finger prints won't show on the stainless steel finish. I've been using this coffeemaker for about a month at this writing. I can tell you that finger prints are not an issue. I have yet to see a finger print on the stainless steel finish. An earlier reviewer critizied the coffee maker as have a flimsy handle. I say, not to worry, the carafe's handle is very substantial, has a very "solid" feel. The coffee maker makes a bit of noise during the brewing process, but so what. I don't know of any coffee maker that is "stealth" during the brew cycle. There was a comment regarding water running down the back of the unit when the lid is openned to remove the coffee grounds. If in fact you do open the lid fully during that process there will be some water that runs down the backside, but I've found that I only have to lift the lid 3/4 the way to extract the filter and grounds, then no water runs down the back side. So, the bottom line is, I think this is a good performing coffee maker. The only thing that would make me happier would be, if it was available in white.

If you are reading this review, you are probably looking to replace a burned out coffee maker too. We have had three Cuisinart DCC-1200's over the past 3-4 years and happy with those. Since the current one died, we started researching again to see if anything was better. After reading about some of the later models catching on fire, I decided to forego that model again, although we still have one of the three still working at the cabin. My comparison would be more between these two models and not other brands. One Cuisinart was the stainless steel model and it did show finger prints all the time unless you kept it wiped down. We did want another stainless steel look to go with the appliances we have and the Capresso satisfies that requirement. It does not appear to be tru stainless steel, which is fine with us, as it has the stainless steel look and it does not show finger prints. It's slides under the cabinets in the same space as the Cuisinart. As far as features, those can be read in the description and did not see anything to contradict it. The carafe is a little thinner than the Cuisinart however not to the point I see it as fragile. I like the button on the carafe lid to jut press and open it up to fill it with fresh water, compared to the Cuisinart that you had to pop off & back on. We don't use the included filter since we fill it up with filter water anyway. You could easily use the sprayer on the sink to fill the reservoir and there is a red ball on the right side to show how many cups is in it. In either case, you will most likely have to slide it out from under the wall cabinets to fill it up & add coffee. No problems with the first pot of coffee this morning as takes about 6-8 minutes for a full 10-cup pot. It does not beep when it's finished like others, which can be a +/- depending on your preference. It is a little louder than the Cuisinart and that may be because the carafe is sitting out on the burner compared to the Cuisinart that is enclosed on three sides. It's not real loud and since we are not sleeping near the kitchen, we don't hear it brewing. As soon as it completed the brew cycle, I measured the temperature in the carafe at 182 degrees with a digital thermometer. It was all gone in about 15-20 minutes, so did not check in 1/2 hour to see what the sitting temperature was.At this point, I would recommend it and if the other Cuisinart burns out, this would be my choice as a replacement. It seems to be a good coffee maker at this price point.**** Update 11/6/2012 ****After having the coffee maker for a couple of weeks, we still like it even though I did have to buy a new carafe. I am sure in the owners manual, it probably says not to put it in the dishwasher. Since I was use to the Cuisinart, I popped off the lid, which in looking at it better, is not really designed to be taken off and on, and put it in to be washed. When I took it out, the top pastic ring had seperated from the glass and warped. There was no real way to fix it as to get it apart, you need to remove the metal clip under the handle. Once you did this, there was no way to really squeeze it back on tight enough. I decided it was a goner, and ordered a new one since it was my fault. Since I was buying a new one, I decided I might as well take the other one apart to see how it was made. You can see in the pictures that it has a hollow handle and a 2 ounce weight in it. Basic design and plan on hand washing it only. The other strange thing I have encountered is when it's brewing. The lid on top that covers the filter, will actually raise up about 1/4" during the brew cycle from the heat. I was watching it make coffee one morning and thought it was not closed. I could push it down, and it would pop back up as the heat was causing it to temporarily warp. About one minute after the brew cycle was finished, it would go back into place. Did not really see it as a problem, just an observation.Over all, I would buy another one when my other Cuisinart dies as still liking it. If still seems to be a good coffee maker at this price.

The best on Amazon... (I've tried them all)

At this point I've purchased the following machines from Amazon:-Cuisinart Brew Central 1200: the worst of the bunch, brews cold, does not fully saturate the grounds-Bonavita: brews hot, but way too fast for small pots yielding weak and flavorless coffee- Melitta 46893: brews too cold (maxes out around 185), produces muddy coffee on the bold setting- Zojirushi 5 cup: brews too cold (maxes out around 190) but better than the previous 3 and has nice design features- Black & Decker Brew & Go: (maxes out at *207*) this machine is awesome, I have one at workWhat I wanted was a machine that brews at or near 200 degrees and can accommodate small pots between 2-5 cups (this one has a 3-5 cup setting). This is the only machine on Amazon that seems to fit the bill. It does a very nice job and produces hot and flavorful coffee. In my tests it was brewing at 196 and above. It has a lot less of a plastic-y smell than other machines and seemed to become "seasoned" a lot more quickly than other machines. The only part I'm not crazy about is the water indicator with a little floaty red ball. It's hard to not put too much water in and the lines on the pot start at 4 and I usually make 3 cups. This is so minor it's not worth a detraction in stars, I'm sure I'll get the hang of it at some point. If you care more about the coffee produced than how sexy the machine looks on your counter and what bells & whistles it does or does not have, learn from my exhaustive trials and error!
