User Opinions

8 cups in the carafe, 4 cups on the floor
Scott E.

I did a lot of research regarding a good, high quality 12 cup thermal carafe drip maker. This model seemed to look like it had everything I was looking for so I gave it a shot. The first couple of pots were made without incident and the coffee was good. Then...not so much.On day TWO I started a pot and left the room. I came back to find several cups of coffee on the counter, in the drawer and on the floor. I thought maybe I messed up and put too much water in the removable tank, so I cleaned up the mess and made a mental note to double check how much water was in the tank. The next morning...same thing happened. Cleaned up the mess AGAIN and tried Plan C: poured water in the tank up to the MAX level and then poured that in the carafe to see if it would all fit. It was tight, but 12 cups as indicated on the tank fit in the carafe. This morning I put less than 11 cups into the tank and tried to brew a pot of coffee. Surely this would work as I had seen that the water would fit into the carafe and then used even less water. Nope. Coffee all over. This time I stayed and monitored what was going on. The carafe was not off kilter under the brewing spout, the lid was secured to the carafe and the grounds were not the problem AT ALL. The problem was that after 8 cups of brewing, the last four just poured over the top of the carafe everywhere. Also of note: THERE IS NO WAY TO STOP THE BREWING PROCESS ONCE IT STARTS unless you can get to the plug, which I could not since I was busy dealing with four cups of coffee being poured into my kitchen. For years I've heard that a thermal carafe is the way to go for drip machines, and the two times it worked well it was pretty cool that 4 hours after brewing the coffee was still steaming and not burned at all. However, I have requested a return for this unit and will go back to a nice, reliable Mr Coffee that costs less than half of the price of this piece of garbage.

Totally disappointed.... faulty lid due to vacuum sealing.

So.... I thought I finally scored on a coffee maker.... but no.... the vacuum seal on the lid causes the coffee to stop pouring into the carafe and onto the counter, etc. It won't make a difference if you replace the lid. The only way I was able to get atound the mess was to not seal the lid tight and only make 10 cups. Don't bother with this unless you are going to use a glass carafe.

Same problem as other review only we called Kitchenaid and they replaced the carafe saying it was a faulty lid. Using the new carafe it made great coffee, the stainless carafe kept the coffee hot hours after brewing, but after just a few pots the coffee flowed all over the counter when in the middle of the brewing process the same as the first carafe. Obviously the new carafe did not fix the problem. Tried all the same things as former comment such as less water and without coffee to see if the grounds might be too fine, but no luck, the coffee spilled all over the counter and floor. We are done with this coffee maker!
