Imagine, a great coffeemaker that looks great and produces 12-cups of really hot, delicious java.Like many of you, I love coffee, but only one cup a day. But, I can't function until it kicks in. The only thing that would make it better would be a coffee IV drip or freeze-dried instant grounds under the tongue. So, coffee -good coffee, is important to me.Some years ago, I found the perfect coffee-maker..it was a Mr. Coffee. Like vacuums, you will undoubtedly go through a few dozen coffee-makers or more in your lifetime. But, this one was a coffee-maker with built-in grinder and I enjoyed the rich coffee it made, although the clean-up was a little bit of a pain. I wore out the first one, and had to find a second. But when it began to make make lukewarm coffee, I worried because the model was no longer manufactured. But, I tarried - foolishly. Finally, about two weeks ago, it died, of natural cause related to old age. RIP. Panic.Now, I was consigned to using my wife's little 4 cup machine she uses for those funny sissy coffees women love so much, at least until I could find a suitable replacement.Over the past two years, I had experimented with various replacements, but always took them back because they produced coffee akin to licking chalk or earwax.Amazon reviews did the trick. After much research on site, I found this Mr. Coffee model, but wondered if it could replace Old Trigger. The average rating said so. And the price was right. It looked a little like the over-priced Cuisinarts, but made great coffee. And it looked pretty spiffy. But, it didn't have a built-in coffee grinder. Oh, well.My advice after a week of delicious coffee? Rush out an buy it now before it becomes obsolete and they replace this model. It makes BETTER coffee than Old Trigger. On the "strong" setting, it is comparable to McDonald's coffee, which for me, is the gold standard for a reasonably-priced cup of coffee.In my thirty-years of Army service, I know a thing or two about good coffee, because it was so rare in most messhalls, but it commanded you to attention each morning and served as boot-polish too. Guys like us can't bear the thought of having our coffee made by anyone with a title such as "barrista", much less pay $5.50 upwards at a starwars-sounding place filled with caffeine-starved coffee fanatics for a small cup and then rave about it. Sprinkles, chocolate toppings, and whipped cream is for ice-cream, not coffee or the undecided.Now, I can't rate longevity for this machine..but so far, it's easy to use, looks great, and makes HOT-as-you-know-what coffee. Old Trigger couldn't hold a bucket of oats to this machine. And it even has a timer that tells you how long it has been since the pot was brewed. By the way, did I tell you the price is cheap? Hooray for Mr. Coffee. And, by the way, check out the Mr. Coffee coffee burr grinder. It, too, is cheap..just check out prices for coffee-grinders that are burr-types. And the burr-grinders are supposed to be the best of all..no blades to dull over time, and no imperfect grinds with a mix of coffee flakes and chunks.Now, I'm waiting with crossed-fingers to see if this coffee-maker is durable.UPDATE-10/18/2012After nearly a month of ownership and use, my ardor for this coffeemaker hasn't abates one whit. I now find myself frequently making coffee in the evening for my wife and me..it's just that good. I note other reviews that are not as favorable have more to do with malfunctions such as the LCD, etc. That may prove correct with mine, but so far, no complaints. I do keep it clean and have tried the delayed timer function. It works flawlessly and hot coffee is waiting when I wake up each morning. And, once again, did I say hot? Compared with the Mr. Coffee that I replaced..from long use and age, this item makes very hot coffee. I have used the Mr. Coffee bean burr grinder several times, and despite being somewhat larger than I expected, it grinds coffee beans perfectly to any setting you prefer and there are no flakes or pieces..the advantage of a burr grinder over one which uses blades. Great combo.

I typically don't get a product and jump to write a review, but this one exceeds my expectations. I have a graveyard of coffee pots stored in my pantry. All shapes and sizes. Cheap to extremely expensive. I use filtered water and clean according to recommendations. Over the past 10 years I now have 5 different machines on the top shelf of the pantry. The day before yesterday the most expensive of all died an untimely death after 1 1/2 years of service. I reviewed several coffee makers and quickly ordered the Mr. Coffee JWX39. It arrived yesterday. Looks as good as its $100 predecessor. It opens 19 1/4 inches for water, so if you are placing it under a counter this may be a problem. I have it on an open counter and it is the easiest coffee maker I've had as far as filling. The water window shows clearly how many cups. I hate "breaking in" new coffee pots due to the "new" taste, so I saved grounds from my little stand by drip pot and ran fresh water through the the new pot with the used grounds 3 times. I then toss the grounds and run vinegar through one time, followed by two runs of fresh water. I've used this process the past couple of pots and it has always killed the new pot taste. This morning, the coffee was excellent. I personally turn the coffee on and come back when it's done, so I appreciated the signal that lets you know the brewing is complete. So for my money, this coffee pot is great. I can buy three of these for what I spent on the last one. I love good coffee and I'm grateful to those reviewing this one. I hope this helps someone else making a quick decision. It's a keeper.

With it's burnished silver accents, it's a nice looking appliance that makes a decent pot of coffee. I set up my coffee pot at night for the morning brew and have never detected and plastic taste by doing that, as others have complained.The coffee brews in a reasonable amount of time, though I noticed the time is lengthened when setting the brew strentgth to strong. There's a mostly universal pause and pour feature on this model that works fairly well. Most of the time a few drips hit the hot plate when I use the feature.If you want to take advantage of the built in clock, place Mr. Coffee in a well lit spot or you won't be able to read those hard to see digital digits.Filling the pot could be more convenient with a larger opening. I find that it's easier to add water to a pot with a swing out filter design. The window that indicates the amount of water in the cavity is easy to read even in moderate light. The large cover on top is double hinged so the user can just open the part above the water cavity.If you place the Mr. Coffee under a cabinet like I did, you'll have to move it every time you fill or clean it. The large door atop the 13 inch tall appliance hits the bottom of our cabinets.When the coffee is down to the last few drops of brewing, Mr. Coffee alerts you with a repeating beep that eventually stops. For me the signal is annoying and unnecessary, but some may like this feature.After two weeks of use the glass carafe developed a crack. I discovered the crack after a pot of coffee leaked all over the counter top and dripped down into the dishwasher and onto the floor. What a great way to begin the day!I had a relatively difficult time finding a replacement carafe. When I went to the Mr. Coffee part site, this specific model wasn't listed. A suitable replacement carafe does appear to be available on Amazon.My recommendation: If you decide on this Mr. Coffee model, you're better off buying the bundle components separately. Be aware of its 13" height and 9" by 7" lid when planning its placement. My coffee pot will be on hiatus until I decide whether or not it's worth buying a new carafe. I'm actually considering buying a smaller unit from another maker.
