Customer Reviews

Not well made.

This item is not made well, the water resevoir does not fit right. The quality control is non existant on this item.I am only going by the two which I have gotten and sent back.I did finally get one from Hamilton Beach that was made right. I was shipped two of them before I got a good one, that was after being shipped two of them from BestBuy which was damaged or looked as though it had been used.If when you get one examine it closely, I think they may have had a run from China which the QC was non exsistant.

I loved my previous HB Brewstation 47454 but it finally bit the dust after a couple of years of everyday use. Because my favorite 47454 is no longer available, I got the somewhat similar HB Brewstation 47950. The footprint is larger on my counter because of the rather dubious side-mounted, removable water filling reservoir. After an initial cleaning, I ran a cycle of clear water (no coffee) and noticed that the machine made a boiling/bubbling noise, even after the brew cycle ended. I looked into the heated "coffee" reservoir and saw small bubbles coming up off the the metal plate at the bottom center. What?? They erroneously advertise that there is no hot plate to scorch the coffee. It is a very hot plate! It annoyingly bubbles as long as the machine is on, long after brewing. Here's an easy fix if you have the same noise problem...put a small drop of JB Weld epoxy near each corner of the heated coffee reservoir's underside metal plate. When dry, this will raise the metal plate slightly off of the hot plate, eliminating the bubbling noise, while still warming the coffee. My other peeve was a very short black electrical cord. My easy fix was to replace the cord with a longer one of a color that matched my counter. Turn the machine upside down and use a number 6 spanner screwdriver to remove two spanner screws on the bottom. Then remove the other phillips screws with a phillips screwdriver. Hint: these need to be skinny screwdrivers because of the skinny holes. Remove the bottom cover (there is a retaining tab on each side that might need a slotted screwdriver to help to gently pry out the tabs). Inside, use a pliers to un-crimp the two wire connectors leading to the cord. Remove and discard connectors. Loosen screw on cord retainer and remove and discard cord from machine. Install a new longer cord with polarized plug that has the two end wires stripped of 1/2" of insulation by using two new wire connectors. Note: the red wire on the machine goes to the new cord wire that leads to the narrow blade on the cord plug. Tighten cord retainer screw. Replace bottom cover and screws. Now, the Brewstation works like it should and I do not need an extension cord.

Not well made and poor customer support

We bought the Brewstation 47950 to replace the worn out Brewstation 47454. We cannot get the 47950 to dispense coffee except by tightly holding the Brewstation to keep it from tipping while strenuously pressing the lip of a coffee cup against the dispensing lever. Called Hamilton Beach product support and received NO satisfaction. The customer representative informed me that what I was experiencing was designed into the 47950 to correct an earlier design flaw so the dispenser would not leak. This one will not leak on our kitchen counter due the fact that I am returning it because it is nearly impossible for us to use.
