"There's no paper taste, and it produces a really clean, delicious cup of coffee." - Bronwen, US Barista Champion 2004
The AeroPress and S filter are the coffee travel kit we always wanted to have. We invented the S Filter to perfect the AeroPress brewing experience. Brewing on paper is fine for some, but we prefer our coffee extractions to be taste-transparent and waste free. With an all stainless steel construction and more than 50,000 holes per square inch, the S Filter filters out most coffee fines but leaves flavorful coffee oils in - and doesn't add that nasty paper taste to your brew! We're so sure you'll love the AeroPress and S Filter together that we protect them with our unconditional guarantee - you can return or exchange your kit any time at all, no questions asked.
The S Filter and AeroPress are our favorite way to brew coffee on the road, hands down, but we love brewing an AeroPress in the kitchen and at the office, too. The self-cleaning, nesting design of the AeroPress means it packs down to just 5.5" long, and we designed the S Filter to fit right inside. It saves counter space - we love brewing a delicious morning cup on 4 square inches of counter space!

Hi All,I purchased this a Kaffeologie S-Filter from the original Kickstarter campaign. I'm glad I did, no complainants, and after tinkering with my recipe a little, I've been making barista quality espresso at home everyday for the past month. I'm very glad to see the product I backed available on Amazon. The short version is this: If you want more of your bean's natural oils to end up in your cup, get this filter. If you don't, stay with paper filters. Its a personal preference, but an important one.The difference between this mesh filter and others on the market is the mesh itself -- the mesh is much finer and allows for more oils to pass through. Only the most miniscule sediment passes through (as is "I can see a small amount at the bottom of the cup but can't feel or taste it at all on my tongue). The result is a terribly smooth, rich and complex brew. If I get a second Aeropress, I'm getting a second S-Filter.A FEW SALIENT NOTES BEFORE PURCHASING:1) The EFFECTIVENESS OF YOUR BREW depends on your own technique more than any filter. This filter is NOT a s silver bullet to great coffee. But it does make it easier to make a richer brew because it is more permeable than paper filter. At the same time, the mesh is finer than other metal filters, so very little sediment slips through. If you aren't getting the depth of flavor, look to your technique first -- by design, this filter lets more oils through than paper, so it isn't the filter's fault.2) Yes, I have paper filters too. They work fine, but I can never make the brew as rich as easily. If you like lighter coffee, paper works, but you're probably giving up a lot of flavor without knowing it. It isn't the paper's fault -- it is doing what it is designed to do, just like this filter does what its designed to do.3) The Kaffeologie S-Filter has clear orientation of "Up" and a "Down" side. You should place it in the Aeropress so the mesh is being pressed INTO the metal retaining ring. This could be more clear on the packaging, but it makes sense once you handle the product.4) Clean up is a breeze, about 2-3 seconds under hot tap water to rinse the grinds off, then 2-3 seconds with a soapy sponge to clean off the coffee oils.**The final two points are VERY IMPORTANT***5) I must admit MY FIRST ROOKIE MISTAKE: I first used the Aeropress thinking it was a glorified French Press. It isn't. You have VERY few ingredients and brewing steps, so if your coffee doesn't turn out how you like it DON'T BLAME THE EQUIPMENT (unless it leaks :) ), rather look to your technique. Seriously, if it isn't good, trust that you may need to tinker with your recipe. Small changes make a big difference. 1 tablespoon more or less of beans, 10-degrees different temperature of the water, etc. Don't think you can use your paper filter recipe and brewing procedures to get your best cup from this or any mesh filter (or vice versa). You need to trust that other people make amazing coffee with this, you can too, but it may take a few so-so cups before you get the hang off it. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO ME. I have different recipes for paper filters vs. the Kaffeologie S-Filter.6) MY SECOND ROOKIE MISTAKE: You MUST grind your coffee very fine (not coarse like a French Press) for the Aeropress to work. Don't blame the filter or the Aeropress if you put the wrong ingredients. Yes, I was an idiot...I'd purchase this product again. This filter is as good if not superior to the other's like it I've tried.JEGNew York, NY

it is pretty sweet how easy it is to clean. And how compact it is to transport. One would think that they would be some trade off in quality, but it's still a pretty good cup of joe.
