One reason for that is the CONICAL FILTER BASKET coupled with a "shower head" that distributes the hot water evenly over the grounds. This system results in fuller flavor without overbrewing and bitterness, as with flat bottomed filters.Other reviewers have claimed there's a "design flaw," but the fact is that if the diverter is simply inserted correctly (easy to do) and the maker itself is on a level surface, it works PERFECTLY EVERY TIME.We're very picky about coffee, like a lot of people. We've spent four and five times the cost of this maker and none of them beat this one.We've bought them as gifts for friends who raved about our coffee, and they love it, too.

Melitta ME2TMB Take 2 Stainless Steel Travel Mug Coffeemaker is the best one I've used in a long time. I tried the other 4 cup brewers and found them lacking in either the shape of the filters or refusing to use all the water in the reservoir. I can set one mug in the center or two side by side for use by a friend. I especially like the #2 cone filter that lets you use less coffee to get the same strength coffee.

I decided to try this (despite the review about the one overflowing cup) and one of the travel mugs did in fact overflow... BUT, I called customer service. They reccommend a.) unplug the unit for 10 minutes and try again b.) return it. I was surprised to see that it did work after unplugging - I had two evenly distributed cups. So apparently, the first run through needs to be watched and after that it is 'calibrated'. Can't beat the price for a good cup of coffee to-go!
