I'm not a huge coffee drinker, but I like the occasional cup to wake me up in the morning. I used to drink regular coffee, but after trying a mocha latte at my nearby coffee shop, I changed that to may favorite occasional coffee product. I don't drink it everyday, so I wasn't looking for a high priced machine to make a "perfect" latte, I figured an average latte would be good enough. I purchased this Mr. Coffee Espresso Maker from my local Walmart, as well as some preground dark espresso grinds. I got some chocolate syrup and followed some simple instructions I found online. I frothed up some milk (I was very surprised at how well this little machine frothed my milk!), filled up the filter with the grinds, tamped with a $5 tamper I purchased at Amazon & started the espresso process. There was some creme on the top of the shot after the espresso had finished, which was another positive surprise for me. I poured the espresso into my coffee mug, which I had already put the chocolate syrup into, and mixed the espresso & syrup with a spoon. Then I poured the frothed milk into the mug. Another quick mix and I tasted it. I was very surprised at the good flavor & even more surprised at how smooth the latte was. I've been using it for a couple months, maybe 4-5 times a week, and it still works great. I purchased some peppermint syrup from my nearby coffee shop and mix that with the chocolate syrup prior to pouring the liquids in and it tastes even better. I've done a lot of research into espresso machines and I am trying to convince myself to purchase a "higher quality" machine, but I just can't do it until this machine fails. If it were to fail today, I'd still be very happy with the usage I've gotten out of it for the price paid for it. I got a burr mill for Christmas (which cost significantly more than this machine), as well as a bag of espresso beans, which I will use as soon as my preground espresso grinds run out, and see how that affects the flavor of my lattes. I'm fairly sure freshly ground beans will add some great flavor as compared to the preground version. It's also very easy to clean. I highly recommend this for anyone looking to make a good espresso at home who doesn't want to spend hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on an espresso machine.
