Aluminum Rollers? Dumb! Dumb! Dumb!
Whole Foods Junkie

The current version of this mill has aluminum rollers. Prior versions of this mill from the same manufacturer had steel rollers. Putting aluminum rollers on a grain mill is dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb!As someone who cares enough about whole foods to buy and regularly use a grain mill, I want something that will stand up over time and something that won't add undesirable byproducts to my food. With aluminum rollers, this mill won't meet either of these criteria. Aluminum is a soft metal. Grain kernels are hard -- including oats. Aluminum rollers will take a beating over time. More importantly, I don't want microscopic bits of aluminum in my food.I think the change from steel to aluminum was made fairly recently. Prior reviewers may well have mills with steel rollers. It's hard to imagine why the manufacturer decided that such a change was a good idea, particularly when most likely purchasers of the product are extremely health-conscious. I don't like to write 1-star reviews, but in its current design, this mill is just not suitable for use.I've sent it back, very disappointed. I'm going to try the Schnitzer Campo mill (not yet available on Amazon) and see if that works out better.

Good for what it is...

We bought this to go in our food storage in case we ever needed to grind wheat and didn't have electricity. My sister broke it out this weekend because she wanted to eat wheat cereal for breakfast. It worked okay for that, but you are looking at a lot of work if you wanted flour. You'd have to put the wheat through twice to get it fine enough. Also, it's not real sturdy. There is only one clamp on on side, so you have to hold down the other side while you churn.Overall, we are happy (price has really gone up since we bought it) because if we were ever in a pinch we'd have a way to use our wheat storage. But for everyday use, I'd look for something else.

Pretty nice

If your looking for flour, were talking a lot of work. We are talking very coarse flour. I had to regrind it 3 times. If just rolled oats it's very nice. It can be used for either. As far wheat flakes (rolled wheat) you would need to soak then for a while unlike oats. My model was not aluminum sorry don't know what to say about that.
