My coffee pot at work died and had to get a new one. However, I can only bring in coffee makers with 3-prong plugs, a.k.a. commercial. I also wanted the timer so it is ready in the morning and it had to be a 12-cup since I share the pot with one other person at work. This was $20 more before Christmas and first week of Jan went down $20 to $54 which is the cheapest cost for a commercial automatic (timer) 12-cup coffee pot that I could find.It is very easy to set the current time or brew time and I love the 2 hour timer that turns off after 2 hours so it does not burn it up if you forget to turn it off. Also, this came with a built in removeable mesh filter which can save you money by not buying cone filters. That is usually about $12-15 extra but was included. The water bubble level as you pour in the water is pretty accurate but watch out because the coffee temp is pretty hot. I usually sip my coffee immediately after getting out of a machine but this is much hotter. There is no control for this but maybe my previous coffee pot was old and did not heat up as much. Maybe this will also get less hot as it ages. Even at the original price and considering the permanent removeable filter saving you cone filter costs, it is still a good deal. ALso, cone filters give you better coffee flavor because the coffee is concentrated to a point where the water goes through. This seems rugged enough to last a few years.

If you're looking for a basic coffee maker without most of the frills, this may be the one for you. I needed to replace my old Braun, and wanted a swing out basket with a cone shaped filter receptacle, and this has both of those features. It also has a few features that my old Braun did not, which I really like. The pot is shaped so that the glass protrudes slightly on the bottom, allowing it to "fit" into the base of the coffee maker securely. My old pot was completely flat, as was the heating base, which allowed the pot to slide a bit. Also, the mechanism that comes in contact with the pot which allows you to pour before the brewing stops, is not one of those button types where you need to position the pot perfectly underneath. Instead, it has a small swing "bar" at the back that will activate, no mater what position the pot is sitting at. The pot pours perfectly with no dripping, and the underside of the top of the unit, where the water pours into the basket, is smooth, and a breeze to wipe clean. The pot lid is a thicker sturdier plastic that is well attached, unlike my Braun which had a thin lid that snapped into the pot handle with two tiny flimsy clips. It has a clock, and you can also program it in advance to brew at your desired time. As the last reviewer stated, it does have a 3 prong plug which is nice, and it does produce a nice hot cup. The two hour shut off is also nice. It does come with a filter basket as well, not the gold type, but made from mesh which is just as useful. We use paper cone filters with ours. I really had to get into the "weeds" of all the coffee makers listed, in order to find this one, but it was well worth the search. It brews fairly quickly, and with a decent quality coffee, you won't be disappointed.
