I just bought a camper and also thought a campsite percolatorfor coffee would be easy and light weight ...well light weight yeseasy +++NOT+++ it was very mesy to clean up took 10-15 mins.to perc.not only did you have to scrape out the groundsyou had to rinse a wash it outin a camper with limited water thats is a big waste of waterNOW THIS TRAVEL MUG W/CONE FILTER TOPis the perfect item for the camperyou set up your mug with a filter in it fill it with coffeeyou boil water pour water threw it slowly-- it has an openingon one side so you can see how full its gettingwhen its done dripping (it takes about 90 seconds)THEN THE BEST PART ++NO CLEAN UP++you just pull the paper cone filter out fold it up and throw it in the thrash ..wipe out the top pieceand your ready to go SOOOO NICE OHH AND COFFEE IS SOOO TASTY

while i didn't know what to expect with this little number,i wasn't put off by the price. it was so affordable.coffee is more about the beans, not so much the maker.but having tried it, i can give it a 5 star rating.if the factory is looking for hints, i have two;1 - the top, while pretty good, will leak.i carry mine and have to watch out for anyreally crazy manuevers if i have hot joein the vac bottle.2 - i suggest the filter bowl be changedto have added extension ring made to fit belowthe flange where it rests on the vac bottle.this would make it more stable.while i haven't had it fall over or off,i have to steady the filter bowl whilei pour the hot water through the brewing grounds.Melitta can put me on their design team ifthey wish.

Good coffee, easy to brew, so so mug

If I were reviewing the cone alone I'd give it 5 stars. I'd give the mug about 3, so it averages to 4.After a little trial and error with coffee amounts and methods of pouring, mostly from advice on youtube, I found a process that works fine for me.For a standard mug:1. Put 2 tablespoons of regular ground coffee in the cone (in a #2 Melitta filter).2. boil water in a pot3. take it off stove and pour a bit of water on the grounds to wet them.4. Then start pouring slowly in a circle, never letting the water get much higher than the grounds. The grounds will stay foamy. That's it. Deep rich hot coffee. For the travel mug I do the same thing but use 4 tablespoons of coffee.I know you're supposed to use water that is 205 to 195 F, not boiling water. But unless you've got a full pot of water, the water in the pot will start to cool rapidly once it leaves the burner. By the time you start pouring it should be in range. I've tried waiting 30 seconds before pouring, but the result was luke warm coffee. The travel mug has an iffy cover. It might leak, it sometimes gets hot coffee on your chin if you're not careful. The mug is black, which means you can't really tell how high the coffee is while you're filling it without taking the cone off, even though there are windows in the cone that are designed to let you see just that.My advice would be to get just the cone and find a better travel mug (and not a black one). Also, I bought my mug/cone combo at the supermarket for seven bucks, so Amazon's price seems a little high. They are high on filters too. Supermarket price was about two bucks.
