I wanted to like this coffee maker...
D. Wellerstein

I really wanted to like this coffee maker. We've tried several and thought this one was the answer but unfortunately, we need to keep looking. The problems are:1. Coffee produced is not that hot. I expected more, especially with a pre-heated carafe.2. As someone else noted, the carafe will pour even in the "closed" position. This indicates an air leak-- something that will chill the coffee much more quickly.3. Pour spout is not good and a lip overhang means that the last drop is virtually impossible to get out.4. The indicator for the timer is very hard to see.5. The water holder, while convenient to remove, is very hard to level. And, there is a hole in the tank to prevent over filling. Unfortunately, it means clean up of spilled water.6. The handle was crooked (not a major issue but annoying to look at on a $129 coffee maker).Made good coffee, especially in small batches, but lots of machines will do that. Shame it had too many flaws to overcome.

many design defects

i bought this coffee maker as i wanted a thermal model that also had front loading of water. never liked those models that you have to pull out so you can load water in the back. unfortunately, most are like that. anyway with this one, after using for several weeks now, i have discovered several deficiencies. first was to remove the water drawer and coffee grinds basket, you need to depress a button on the handle and pull it out. with mine, when you do that, the lever doesn't pull down enough and you can't get the drawer out. it gets stuck. i have to keep wrestling with it to get it out. then, as other posters have noted, it frequently leaks all over the counter when brewing. still can't figure that out. pot and drawer are in proper position, but it happens anyway. also, the way the lid to the pot screws on is such that it is kind of difficult to align it exactly level so it can screw on. if you don't get it in just the right position, one edge screws down to the pot, the other sticks up a 1/4 or so. pouring is poor like the other posters said as the interior of the pot has a big lip. can't get all the coffee out unless you practically turn the pot upside down. Last problem started in the past few days. if you fill it up to make a full pot and press the brew button, it will go about half way through the cycle and stop leaving half the water in the machine. i can't figure that out either. the machine will beep indicating the brew is complete, but in reality its stops brewing about half way through the cycle. it seems the only way to get it to brew to completion is to turn it off and then press the brew cycle again. then it will normally finish brewing the coffee.the other thing is this company has no US phone number listed in the manual for customer service. they have a phone number to italy. so you can't reach them for assistance. but to anyone thinking of buying this coffee maker, i'd keep looking. Its made in china and has all the low quality of a typical product made in china. that coupled with the fact there is zero customer support from the company, if you get it and it has problems, which is highly likely, your going to be stuck.

Believe the Negative Reviews!
Helene

After reading the reviews of others I was hoping to be among the few who had a good experience with the Saeco Easy Fill coffee maker. Sadly, this was not the case. Water leaked from the tank at approx. 1 cup per minute(my husband called it the "Saeco Easy Drain" coffee maker)!!!This is a beautiful looking machine but I would advise shoppers to heed the negative reviews....On a positive note: Amazon's amazing return policy was the best part of this shopping experience.

Pretty good coffee maker (4+ stars)
Debbie Lee Wesselmann

This Oster coffee maker has all the premiums features -- programmable brew time, steel mesh reusable filter, easy-to-read clock, brew pause, "aroma" setting for stronger coffee, and automatic shut-off. The clock, which glows blue, is easy to read in both daylight and dark. Unlike some models, which have the water level mark visible through a gauge on the outside, this one uses a step system that shows inside the reservoir how much water has been added. The "inside only" view of water level allows for a cleaner, all-stainless look on the outside, but some people may not like to judge either by the carafe markings or by looking inside.Pros:-- It looks nice on the counter, especially with other stainless steel appliances in the kitchen.-- The features all work well, without any complicated steps or procedures.-- The included, removable basket is deep enough to minimize overflow when brewing 12 cups.-- Smooth exterior surface and easily removed basket makes it easy to clean.-- Heating element turns off automatically after two hours to avoid burning coffee or leaving it on all day. (See cons as well.)-- Very easy to program-- Coffee brews hot and stays hot.Cons:-- Reservoir lid is large/deep, and you have to pull it out from under cabinets to fill it. Do not purchase if you don't have enough counter space/depth to pull it out, or if you cannot position it free from overhangs.-- Carafe lid is difficult to remove-- The heating element turns off automatically after two hours, which may be too soon for some people.-- Brew time is somewhat slow, even without selecting the aroma feature.-- Since Oster isn't a big name in coffee makers, obtaining replacement carafes over time may be more difficult.I can't comment on longevity; however, people who live in hard water areas and who don't use a water softener should descale with vinegar on a regular basis. When I lived in such a situation, my coffee makers of varying brands seldom lasted longer than four years, even with monthly cleaning.Although the Oster is a great option, I prefer the Cuisinart DCC-1200 12-Cup Brew Central Coffeemaker. The difference is that the Oster is often discounted, which takes it to a lower price point where it becomes a real value. Shop around for the best prices.-- Debbie Lee Wesselmann

I've had this coffee maker for about 4 months now. I really like it. I love the mesh filter and honestly don't understand why all coffee makers don't have them. "Wait, we can very simply and easily replace hundreds of pieces of litter per year by making something that will cost the consumer about what it would cost to buy a pack of filters? Naahhhh why bother?"I love the aroma feature and I love the auto feature. It's very easy to set and it's nice to wake up to coffee in the mornings. It is a bit of a chore to fill the water. I have to pull it all the way out from under my cabinets and pull the lid all the way open. I do find filling it with the carafe a bit clumsy at times and often drip water through the filter. It's easier to fill it with a measuring cup.Overall, I like this coffee maker a lot, it looks stylish and does it's job. Hoping it will hold up for a long time.

Best Lil Pot I have ever had
Texas Rose

I was on Amazon looking for a new coffee pot when daughter was at Target and spotted this one. I read Amazon customer reviews while she was on the phone and told her to buy this one. 44.00 was a great price at Amazon but Target had it on sale for 29.99. Let me tell you folks, I have had this pot 5 days now and it makes great coffee. I do use the Mileta brown cone filters as they suggest. My counter top is such that it has room for this pot not sitting under a cabinet. Yes, it is tall. AND, I use less coffee than I did in my Mr. Coffee Pots that I have used for 30 years. Mr. Coffee pots last us less than 2 years...)-: I pray this Oster will last longer. Oh...I did have a Crusinart one time that lasted 18 months. That pot costs 80.00. No more expensive pots in my house.

Good but in retrospect a little small for my needs
ArchieZer0

I guess the question is what do you want from a coffeepot. If you wants something that has yellow on it then this is your pot and that is what my GF wanted. I only have two complaints about it and that is one it is a little to small from my GF's and I combined coffee habit. You know living in Seattle and all... Two the first one was broken and had to be sent back. Amazon makes returns super easy and it was replaced quickly but it still takes something away from this coffeemaker for me.

Worked fine until it went kaput
BC

Simple coffee maker that gets the job done. I used it probably 2-3 times a week, but unfortunately after about 8 months it stopped working. The water wouldn't heat even though the light was on.

Replacement carafe has arrived ... and it works!
George

Had I read these reviews before buying this coffee maker, I would have stayed away ..... far away. But it looked good in the store, so I went for it. The dripping carafe is the biggest problem. It's really bad. So I called Customer Support (1-800-526-5377) and I must say they were accommodating (must be getting a lot of calls on this one, or they're simply blowing me off!). They took my name and address and said they would ship a redesigned replacement carafe when they become available at the end of December (apparently the carafe's are in the process of being manufactured). I'll wait and see. I like the look and feel of the machine and the coffee is fine, it just makes a mess when you pour. They did ask if I had the receipt and if I had the machine in front of me (yes on the receipt, no on the machine as I'm at work). However, they did not ask that I fax anything, unlike other reports I've read. So for now, I'll pour over the sink and hope they keep their word.My one concern is in regards to a company that would actually manufacture and market a product that is obviously poorly designed to the point of being defective. Makes you wonder about the quality control for the rest of the unit. But if you own one of these, and can't or don't want to return it, call Customer Support, ask for a new and improved carafe, and keep your fingers crossed.Update Dec 18, 2009:True to their word, my new carafe arrived yesterday. Basically, they widened the spout and removed the baffle. Works perfectly. I'm pleased with the quick response, as I really want to like this machine. No other complaints, although the 2 stage timer advertised on the box would have been a nice addition, especially at this price. So I'm revising my rating from 1 star to 4. If you own one with the old style carafe, call customer service at the number above. The concern someone else mentioned about the removable tank eventually leaking is a possibility, I guess. Time will tell. In the meantime, I'm OK with it.

I returned it
Gerry

I really wanted to love this pot, because of its looks and the fact that it did brew really good coffee. But it had annoying issues I could not get over. The carafe is designed like a dribble glass. Nomatter how careful we were, we could not pour from a full carafe or an almost empty carafe without spilling. Second, while using coffee ground specifically for an electric drop pot, we found that the machine consistently made a mess when brewing a full pot - the grounds would overflow the basket & be pushed up through the steam vents on the top of the machine. Also the machine I received did not support the advertised 2 automatic settings feature, even though the Krups box listed this as well as the Amazon add. The manual did not list this feature and the simple and intuitive programming menu didn't allow setting more than one start time.I was grateful for Amazon's return policy, which made it easy to send this disappointing machine back.

Do Not Buy This
Shannon D. Goss

After having this product for 1.5 months I have dealt with the leaky pouring and it is bad as the other post mentions. I called Krups and they told me to pour slower and even doing that it still leaks. The unit has a tank on the back that is removable so you can take that to the tap and put your water in. The other week it began a steady drip of water which my solution was to put my finger over it when I carry it over from sink to coffee maker. That has turned into a full on pool of water under my coffee maker. It is pouring out water in the back on the machine. I now have to send it to Krups for repairs and it takes 3 weeks. This unit costs too much money to have basic issues as I am having.

Not good enough for Goodwill
Kristen Hannum

There are so many things wrong with this coffeemaker that I don't know where to start. I wanted to like it - my husband and daughter bought it when she and other family were in town visiting and our Braun coffeemaker stopped working. That was Mothers Day. I finally gave up yesterday, three months later. Here are the problems:1. Weak coffee. There are two kinds of coffee drinkers in America: "is that tea or coffee, Mom?" coffee drinkers and coffee shop coffee drinkers. Yes, there really is a difference, and it begins with strength of the coffee (along with being freshly brewed, good quality beans, clean equipment, and, in most places, filtered water). But I digress. If you're OK with Aunt Mildred's coffee, you may be OK with this machine. It evidently pushes the heated water through the grounds too fast. There is no way to get a really strong cup of coffee, no matter how much coffee you use. For regular strength, we were using twice as much coffee as with the Braun. Possibly more. Cheaper just to go down to Starbucks.2. Badly designed carafe. There is a seam someplace that allows water to get in between the inner sleeve and outer portion of the carafe. That means that water sloshes around there. It's cold when the hot coffee is going in, and so cools down the interior. It's like pouring your hot coffee into a chilled glass. Other reviewers have said that this trapped water mixes with the coffee. I don't think it does, but it offends me nonetheless.3. Cold coffee. Probably because of #2, but also because of the energy-saving design of what is usually a warmer below the carafe not being a warmer. The cooled coffee sits in the carafe and isn't warmed. Plan on using your microwave for every cup.4. Messy looking on the counter. Because the carafe has that seam that leaks, it sweats out calcified water. Or something. It looks leprous.5. Cheaply glued on control panel. Look at the photo. See the control panel at the bottom? Be careful when you clean it because of its leprosy (described in #4), because the entire panel seems to be pasted on. As in temporarily pasted on.6. The cup-measure on the side is purely for show. There is no way to actually see how much water there is inside, even with a flashlight. It's no big deal, since I always put in the same amount of water from a big glass that is my coffee-water-measuring glass, but the fact that the numbers are there is misleading. (Actually, if you put your finger on the number outside the coffeemaker, and then crane your head around to look inside, you can see your finger and thus know how much water there is.)7. No way to use a gold cone.8. Badly designed column - where you pour the water in. It's awkward to reach, and too close to the grounds, so that I often end up splashing water on the grounds.9. It did once explode, as other reviewers have complained about. I think I did something wrong - but what? - and instead of going into the carafe, the weak watery stuff that this machine produces went all over the counter. Eight cups of it.I felt so relieved when I found the ancient Gevalia 4-cup machine in the basement. Lovely coffee. I'll never buy a Black & Decker coffeemaker again - but I want one of their hedge trimmers.Summing up, I feel guilty about giving this coffeemaker to Goodwill. No one should even pay $5 for it. It's going in the trash.

I don't know what everyone is complaining about
Alan D. Meyerson

Maybe Black & Decker recently changed the way they manufacture this machine but I have to say I am at a loss over why so many people are complaining. I bought this machine on sale at Target (Amazon turned out to have it for the same price, go figure) and then I found it online to look at reviews. After I read some of the more terrible ones, I was ready to return it without even trying but I figured that, since I already had it in my house, I might as well see how it works. A week later, I'm pleasantly surprised, so much so that I want to address some of the complaints I've read:Coffee Temperature: Yes, this coffee maker either doesn't have a heat plate or it turns off once the coffee is done brewing (I'm not quite sure). Well, that's the point - leaving coffee over a heat plate for hours makes the coffee taste terrible (it's the reason I tossed my old coffee maker). The coffee this machine brews is hot - it's so hot that, after pouring a cup immediately after brewing, I have to let it sit for about a minute in order to drink it (after adding milk). And the thermal carafe keeps the coffee hot for at least a couple hours. If I leave coffee in the pot for a whole day, it will still be lukewarm that evening. Although a warming plate might keep the coffee hot all day, it would be undrinkable because burnt coffee is disgusting. This machine will never burn your coffee.Water Level Gauge: Yes, it's really hard to tell how much water you've put in - the water level gauge kinda sucks. So what. This really is a minor inconvenience. And as someone else pointed out, you can use the water gauge by putting your finger on the desired cup line and looking inside the machine. Is this ideal? Of course not (hence the 4 stars) but really not worth crying about.Mess: This coffee maker has never overflown or otherwise leaked coffee. No idea what you're doing wrong if you have this happen to you. Same goes for the seam that I've read about. No clue what you're talking about - the carafe in my machine is solid.Difficulty Pouring: It is not difficult to pour from the carafe. You just have to press down on the release button on the lid (this feature helps keep the coffee warm). Although getting the last little bit of coffee out can be somewhat difficult, I don't mind letting a few drops of coffee go to waste if I'm mostly satisfied with the machine. It's not like you're brewing that $500 a pound cat poop coffee (if you are, then you should also get yourself an unnecessarily expensive coffee maker).Final Thoughts: I like this machine. I like the carafe. I think the carafe is easier to clean than one made of glass. I also think it stains less than a glass carafe and I don't worry about dropping and breaking it in the sink while washing it (I've already dropped it a couple times).I'm the kind of person who doesn't have time in the morning to clean my coffee maker before heading out. If I don't drink all the coffee I brew, it ends up sitting in the carafe all day. When I had a coffee maker with a glass carafe, I'd come home to nasty tasting coffee (because it had sit on the hot plate for a few hours until the machine turned itself off) and a mess trying to clean the burnt coffee out of carafe. I rarely brewed coffee because it was so unpleasant to deal with my old machine. With this machine in my kitchen, I'm brewing coffee almost every day.

Not bad if you like cold coffee
DrBubba

We bought this coffee maker about 5 days ago and were immediately and continuously disappointed. The carafe keeps the coffee tepid at best. There is no heating element on the coffee maker. From the moment coffee is made (not very hot) it gets cold. Within 30 minutes it is not drinkable. Additionally, the reservoir fill markers are easy to see but it is very, very difficult to see the water level. Unless you look directly into the coffee maker reservoir or pour the water into the reservoir from some premeasured container, it is almost impossible to determine how much water is in the reservoir.

good to the last drop

Makes a great cup of coffee, built in grinder is great, just fill, set time and presto its done. If you like starbucks or other high priced coffee try grinding your own beans.Ya'll buy a built in ginder again. The unit works great, best coffee flavor, only draw back is you must clean the grinder each day, several parts to wash but it only takes minutes, I like the filter' just wash and reuse.

Too much work!

I was extreemly dissapointed in this coffee maker. I had been grinding my own beans every morning and using a Mr Coffee maker. I treated myself to this coffee pot and should have stuck with my old methods. The coffee is good, however no better than it was with my old pot. Here's the thing, the steam from the coffee goes up into the grinding station meaning that it has to be, not only rinsed, but cleaned after each use. As well as other components. And if you are a household that will make more than one pot of coffee in a row, FORGET IT! There is nothing more frustrating that having to completely clean out the coffee maker for a cup of coffee. So if you want fresh ground coffee in the morning, use a separate grinder.

unlucky with mine

i have to say that my experience was just awful- apparently the one i received was defected and the hot water got jammed in the brewing area. one good thing is when i contacted the company they really made it up to me, took it back and gave me a full refund. a friend purchased the same thing and she likes it. she also doesn't mind cleaning up after the first brew (collects moisture in the grinder area).

Technivorm Moccamaster

Moccamaster is the right name for this coffee maker - LOVE IT! It is easy to use and the fastest ever! And then there's the coffee - hot, rich and beyond superb! This is a coffee lover's delight right down to the last drop! We have owned several different coffee makers, including the grind and brew, but this tops them all - I wish there was a higher rating than FIVE STAR!

Am quite pleased with the initial quality and overall performance of this unit. It definitely delivers in seeking that perfect cup of coffee. Just make sure you're using fresh whole beans and cold spring water in doing so. It's a very simple unit to operate actually. Some may be turned off with the asking price but, you do get what you paid for. Best part of owning it is knowing it wasn't another cheap labored product coming from China. 100% Netherlands made. Now, the burr grinder that came with the package does come from China and you'll definitely notice the difference in both material and performance. Since it came with seller's package deal, I'm not complaining at all about the grinder part only. Buy a Technivorm Moccamaster and you'll be glad you did.
