A quality product at a very good price... no auto off
R. Stanhope

This coffee maker arrived well packaged and damage free. I really like the sleek look as compared to a Mr. Coffee which seems bulkier and more utilitarian in design. This item does not work any better than a Mr. Coffee just looks nicer as a full time counter top resident. After all coffee is all about the bean and not the hot water maker.I have always used a plug in appliance timer for my coffee maker so the lack of an auto off feature is not a problem.

Good coffee
DH

You can't go wrong for the price. Initially I was willing to pay a lot more until I started reading the reviews. I have had this now for over a month, it gets used daily. No problems, easy to use and clean. The coffee taste just as good as the Kuerig (workplace). Save your money.

Works great
TC

Perfect, inexpensive, big container, pours well Why pay $100 when this works just as good, no needless bells and whistles.

DeLonghi designed #1 coffee maker!
mamaj

When my $100 coffee maker quit, I researched coffee makers and found this model from DeLonghi I hadn't heard of before. The design of this model sets a new standard for on-the-counter coffee makers. It is incredible to be able to put the filter, coffee, AND WATER in the maker without moving the machine. The caraffe doesn't drip when pouring into the swing out arm (or into the cup later) so there's no messy drips to wipe up at any time. The digital clock isn't the quickest to set since you have to hold a button in as it changes in minutes only, but hopefully that won't need set often. The "aroma" button really works! There actually is a difference in the brewing aroma with it on.Most importantly, the end product was a great cup of coffee! I'm thrilled with the coffee maker and haven't found a single negative aspect yet, including the price. I HIGHLY recommend this model. Kudos Delonghi, you really outdid yourself here. Amazon's shipping was simple and fast. The whole purchasing experience was exceptional. A+++++

not quite hot enough
Tanna Riggs

I just got this coffee maker a few days ago and for the most part I like it, but, and this is a major but for me, the coffee just isn't quite hot enough. I find myself throwing my cup in the microwave to get it piping hot, not scalding but hot. It's nice looking, the front water loading is convenient, the coffee tastes good, but I wouldn't buy it again because of the temperature issue.

Leaks
iarizona

I had the same leaking problem that another reviewer had. After about 1 month of daily use this unit starts leaking from the back and liquid coffee goes down to the warming plate making a mess and causing a burnt coffee smell. The company kindly sent me another unit but the same thing happened. So now they are sending me a second replacement and I chose a different model which hopefully will be more reliable. But based on the review on that unit I am not optimistic that unit is any better.

commercial machine lasts forever
D. Thornberry

I have had this unit since 1997, it should last forever. We use it for making iced tea and coffee at least once but mostly twice a day.We have it on a $15.00 appliance timer so the water is not heated between 10pm and 6am (it only takes15 mins to heat up the tank if it is off) I make coffee at 6:30am it takes 5 minsto make a pot (I can make as little as 4 cups) then I turn it off till the evening whenwe make tea. I got tired of buying the $20 coffee pots that only last a year.

Made in U.S.A.& Built to last !

We love our BUNN VP17, having had it at home in our Kitchen for over 1 year now.I am a hard core coffee addict, and in our house we can go through several pots just in the morning. The coffee is always perfectly hot (200F) and the big BUNN brews a full 64oz pot of terrific coffee in 3 minutes. This is a very sturdy, well built machine. Simple to operate and built like a tank. When looking for a replacement coffee maker, we had some simple requirements (It had to be American made, and it had to be simple). The last thing I want at 5am is to have to fight with a computerized coffee maker.Pro's- Made in USA. Let's keep Americans working!- All Stainless Steel. No plastic- Simple to use. Just pour as much water as you'd like coffee.- High quality power switch for the lower burner- The coffee is always brewed at the perfect temperature- Water is always maintained hot inside the tank- It' s a BUNN- Great conversation pice in my kitchenCon's- It is Big! and takes up a substantial amount to counter spaceA comment regarding power consumption. The BUNN VP17 is always "on". It has no power switch per se.The internal tank has an independent thermostat and heating element. Once the unit is heated up, It will operate once (3-4 mins)/1.5- 2 Hours.During this hearing stage, the machine will use around 1500 Watts of power. The independently switch hotplate draws about 50Watts.Keep in mind, the BUNN has no water pump, so once it starts to brew, the water is gravity fed into the pot.We are energy conscious, and have placed the BUNN on an appliance timer; turning in on at 4am, and off at 8pm.Heat up from cold water takes about 20 minutes. When our unit heats up, after being off for 8 hours, it only takes 5-10 minutes to get up to temperature. This has resulted in a negligible change to our electric bill.Overall, it is a wise investment. You can enjoy your coffee knowing you helped to keep fellow Americans employed. And please - try to buy American.

I've had mine since 1998! Still going strong.
lesd40

Tired of burning through cheapie pkastic drip coffee makers? I was. This is great...resturant coffee anytime. It works as well today (2011) as it did when I took it out of the box! It keeps the water inside hot by reheating it periodically. Don't worry, you'll never notice it on your electric bill. Well made, built to last. The VP-17 is made to fit under wall mounted kitchen cabinets. It comes with plastic pitcher for water. I use about 1/4 of the pitcher for one cup (mug) of coffee and about 2 scoops of ground coffee.

Great coffee maker at a great price
D. Workman

The Mr. Coffee EJX36 does just what a good coffee maker is supposed to do - it brews a great pot of coffee at a nice hot temperature. The no-drip spout is excellent, the water filter has turned out to be a very handy feature (we've tried a side-by-side with and without the filter, and it does make a difference), and finally, it's well designed and quite attractive. The new features are nice to have as well - I appriciate the "Brew Strength" selector and the cleaning cycle, which I've never had in a coffee maker before. Overall, an excellent purchase that we're very happy with. Some other reviewers have mentioned that the neck to the carafe is too narrow which makes it hard to clean by hand - but it cleans just fine in the dishwasher.

BEST Coffeemaker I've Ever Owned!
L. Maty

Was recommended this specific coffeemaker by my son-in-law who is a U.S. Air Force E-6 Tech. Sgt. at Fort Dix, N.J. He's a "serious" coffee drinker both at home and on the job. I saw that he had one, (at home), and I needed to replace my current Mr. Coffeemaker. (Coffee grounds constantly showing up in the finished coffee plus the carafe leaked no matter what direction you poured from). I was ready to give up drinking coffee forever because I have owned many coffeemakers in my 43 yrs. of drinking the stuff. Checked out the price on Amazon and it was on sale,($39.99). Checked local Target and purchased it for the same sale price so I didn't end up paying S/H plus tax. Read the directions for preparing the unit prior to making the first pot. I have to say this made about THE very best coffee I have ever had! (I used a new fresh bag of Dunkin' Donuts brand coffee). Made the full 12-cup pot* and between husband and myself, finished the whole pot right away. And FINALLY - a carafe that 100% does NOT leak. I was ready to purchase this in RED, ( which is really beautiful - not bright red or candy-apple or cheap looking, but instead a deep rich red), but instead went for black/stainless look only because it was difficult to match the red with a new toaster and blender from other companies. It has a "water filtration system" which is great if you have any issues with your tap water. The "pause' n serve" feature works. No drips. The "water window" on the side is a special feature that lets you see and double check the exact amount of water you've poured in. EVERYTHING the manufacturer says this does - it DOES. Plus, it looks beautiful sitting on the counter. *There is, however, the mystery of just why do you end up with 10 cups of coffee when you've made 12. I read tons of reviews on all brands of coffeemakers and many seem to say this is the case. But who cares? Just make another pot if you want more. I am very happy with this and wonder why no one else has written a review yet. Go out and get this one. It's a WINNER!

Mad Coffee Drinker
Ellies Momma

I purchased the Mr. Coffee bvmc-ejx36 12 cup programmable coffee maker about 3 weeks ago (see link). The "Brew Now" quit working and will no longer brew. Steam leaked into the clock making it unreadable. The coffee pot spills no matter how slow or fast you pour it. It of course makes a huge mess while pouring the water into the machine AND all over my hand while pouring the actually coffee. I'm going to buy a cheap one later today. I hope this info helps.Mr. Coffee EJX36 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Stainless Steel

Makes great coffee
Leslieblonde

I love Krups coffee makers - I always receive compliments that I make good coffee and I'm pretty sure it isn't my own expertise! I ordered this coffee maker because I wanted a simple on/off machine. This fits the bill, but it does have a few issues that I would redesign if possible. The whole top is the lid - unlike my previous which just a small section opened and I could leave it open under the cabinets to air out - this one doesn't fit under my cabinet with the lid open. I usually pull mine out from under the cabinet when it is brewing and then slide it back under them when finished so that the steam doesn't damage the cabinets. This one has very sticky feet that don't slide easily. Lastly, it is a bit tricky to nest the filter into position to shut the lid. I have had it over a month and still have to jiggle the filter into place to get it to fit correctly. Nice sturdy carafe.

After 20 years of loyalty, I'm done with Krups.
Book Hound

Me and my immediate family members have used Krups coffee makers for about two decades now. And we have always been impressed by their practicality and durability. My most recent Krups coffee maker recently died (after 9 years of constant, hassle-free use). I immediately began shopping online for another Krups, not even considering going with a "lesser" build quality brand. The more sites I hit and the more reviews I read, the more apprehensive I became about buying a Krups coffee maker. The customer reviews of Krups coffee makers (any of them) on the Krups website eroded my confidence even further. But, nonetheless, as a decades-long pleased and loyal customer of Krups, I went ahead and purchased a Krups coffee maker. This one, the KM1010, which is the only one that wasn't quite flush with reviews about poor build quality, is the one I picked, only because it seemed, based on reviews, to be one of the only Krups with mostly favorable reviews. Krups had always been great so I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt.Less than one week after new, water starts pooling up behind the maker during the brewing process. First week, it's just a couple tablespoons or so. I dismiss it as steam condensing and dripping out of a seam or something else of no major concern.I've been using the maker for six weeks now and to make coffee without flooding the counter, I have to wrap two kitchen towels around the back of the base of the maker to soak up all the water that runs out of the back bottom of the maker during brewing. And when the brewing cycle is done, I have to add more water to replace the water that the towels soaked up. And when I state the towels are soaked, think about how much water it takes to soak two average kitchen hand towels.Enough was enough. I called Krups customer service dept a couple hours ago. I was informed that I need to box up my coffee pot, attach the label they are going to send to me, then carry this thing to a UPS office so it can be returned to one of their service centers as a warranty claim. Here's what put the icing on the cake for me. I'm informed that the turnaround time will be somewhere between 4-6 weeks. Good, so now I get to go buy another coffee pot to use while I wait a month and a half to get a replacement piece of Chinese-built Krups crap to replace the one I purchased six weeks ago (yes, this maker is stamped "Made in China."I'm a patient and gracious customer because I truly love people. Before I jump ship from a brand because of a shift to crappy build quality, I take time to kindly explain to that brand's customer service department why I, as a long-time customer of their brand, no longer view their brand as a worthwhile purchase. I give kind and honest feedback in the hope that maybe it helps them down the road. But I'm not going to keep giving them money for junk products while they find their way again. Before I purchased this coffee maker, I dismissed all the negative reviews I read regarding Krups coffee makers as mere glitches, momentary hiccups in the manufacturing process or something. In my opinion, they're not simply glitches.I'm going to go buy another coffee maker and it most definitely WILL NOT be a Krups. It's a brand I'm done with, for good.Always amazes me that, after decades of building a sterling reputation for quality, companies will sink their own ships for the sake of a very brief period of lower production costs. That's my 2-cents.

Nice design, HOT coffee, but big, and shows fingerprints
Nick

The good: Really sleek design; even the blue "on" light looks cool. Really sharp looking coffee maker. Coffee is REALLY hot - which is great, and brews quickly, I like the mess free filter mechanism - snap it out, dump in garbage can, and return. No grounds or drips getting all over. Not sure why other said this drips when you pour. My last Krups dripped all over when I poured. This is totally drip-free when pouring except if I put a lot of water in (more than the 10 cup capacity). Coffee is nicely brewed - really seems to make a nice brew. The so-so: as other said, the area to pour water in is a little tricky to pour into, but really not a huge deal. The stainless is nice, but show fingerprints, like most other stainless. But, cleaned nicely with just a papertowl and water. Also, the coffeemaker is larger than I thought, especially since its a 10 cup coffeemaker - slightly taller and deeper than I would have thought / than my old one.Given the simplicity of this, I expect it to last as long as my last Krups - 10+ years.

Well worth the price.
Ralph E. Spooner

I have owned Mr. Coffee's and various types of perculator type coffe makers over the last 38 years, but I have never had a coffee brewer/maker that made coffee as good as the Bunn home brewers. The first one I bought lasted over 10 years. I discovered that I could have fixed it myself with a new top water resevoir after I had bought a new one. As long as you clean them regularly, they will last a long time. One hint to good coffee from the Bunn, use filtered or distilled water if you live in the city. Chlorine will make the coffee taste bitter, regardless of the coffee brewer.

Held up for 13 years of daily use!- SEE UPDATE ON NEW MACHINE
R. Pauker

I just replaced my 13 year old Bunn with the exact same model. I cannot think of another household appliance that has outlived this machine. It was used daily (and sometimes twice a day) for all of that time, and it still made a great cup of coffee. Finally it sprung a leak, so I replaced it with the exact same model. As for taste, it's the best too. It makes far superior coffee to my in-laws more expensive Cuisinart, and it makes it FAST. There is good reason that the finest restaurants and coffee houses use Bunn. One improvement on my new machine: the clever makers at Bunn installed a lever on the water intake that will not allow the coffee to brew until you close the door. This prevents the coffee from already starting to brew before you replace the carafe (remember how quick it is?). The downside is (and I'm sure it was a cost-saver to them) they expect you to use the glass carafe to measure water, so they no longer provide you with the plastic Bunn water measuring carafe. I found it useful for other things, such as watering household plants and measuring large amounts of water (think extra big measuring cup). I do think that new users will appreciate not having to store an extra piece of equipment.UPDATE: My 2nd Bunn was not built nearly as well as the first. Shortly after a year (the warranty period), it began leaking from the base. This leak began as a small puddle of water and ended in the machines inability to hold nearly any water. This leak from the base seems to indicate a compromised metal tank, leading to the machine's demise.Additionally, the plastic began to crack all around the burner radiating outward. The plastic under the spray head also cracked in multiple places radiating outward from where the coffee drips out. I guess they don't make them like they used to.Given my experience with the newer machine, I would no longer recommend this product. I threw it in the trash, and bought a Keurig- which makes great coffee, one cup at a time. So far over 1 year, and no trouble.

Great Unit
Duke

Much the same as one I owned over twenty years ago. Why (fix) change the design if it doesn't need changing (fixing). The only difference between the old Model & the new one is that there is a switch in the cover that allows you time to pour the water into unit & then place the pot underneath. Also it seems cheaper material is now being used.Keeps water hot all the time (except there is a vacation off switch) so you are able to make coffee in about three minutes.Real nice unit.Update 3/10/2011Unit plastic has started to crack around the burner. Don't know how much longer it will last.Have had it about 5-1/2 years Maybe thats what they were designed for.Except for cracked plastic , no problem

Great design, solid build, superb coffee
DrJavaDude

I have been using Capresso drip machines for several years (MT500 then MT600). Finally made the leap to the Technivorm and can confidently say it was well worth the investment. The machine is well-designed and well-built. It fulfills all of the "coffee geek" requirements perfectly -- brew temperature and speed, good showering of the ground coffee, and excellent temperature retention in the thermal carafe. The coffee tastes great -- the correct brewing temperature produces good extraction and eliminates unwanted bitterness.I love that this new model has the brew-through lid. It's not a big deal to pour my first cup and then place the solid lid on the carafe. I'll just have to get used to rinsing and setting the brew-through lid on the counter next to the machine. My only criticism is very slight. It comes with a removable base upon which to set the carafe under the brew basket. The piece is a bit flimsy and will not stay attached to the machine when I move it out from under the counter to fill the water reservoir. My solution -- just don't use the optional base. It really is not necessary as the carafe will sit perfectly in the machine on the counter under the brew basket. I'm guessing the base would be fine for folks who don't need to move the machine back and forth under a counter.I love it and am glad to have made the purchase. Amazon made the purchase process flawless, of course.

Technivorm Moccamaster-new model
javajunkie

Already have the small Technivorm (8 cup) coffeemaker....coffee is awesome and I've been extremely happy with it. When I decided to purchase another Technivorm for my primary residence, I decided to get the new model which has the 'brew-stop" feature (other Technivorm models don't offer that feature). I've had trouble getting the right coffee strength with the new model; evidently when Technivorm added the brew-stop feature, they eliminated the "coffee strength setting" on that model which controls how fast the water flows through the coffee (based on whether you want to make 1-4 cups or larger quantities). Although the instructions in the box indicate the coffee filter holder has a switch for the strength setting on the new model, mine does not. Technivorm must use one instruction sheet for a variety of models, and not all models have the same features, so beware! I like the brew stop feature, but not at the expense of setting the coffee strength. The other issue I have with all the Technivorms is minor, but still irritating. When the thermojug lid is screwed on, you have to set the thermojug somewhere other than on the plastic holder underneath the coffeemaker...it's too tall when the lid is on to fit. On the positive side, I love the ease of cleaning, the good looks and quality, and (in the case of the 8-cup older model), the coffee it makes. However, for the price of these machines, it should be 5 stars in all categories.

Technivorm
Richard M.

Nice looking product but the website says it comes with many extras and is the latest model! These extras make it worth buying from this vendor BUT there were no extras! The ad says: "Uses paper cone filters or goldfilter (both of which are supplied with our offer)". There was no gold filter and it makes me wonder if it was the latest model or whether they were just getting rid of their old stock. I sent feedback to the vendor and I called Amazon. I was told there was nothing they could do and that my only option was to send it back for a refund! On a side note this coffee maker is rated as one of the best by cooking websites and coffee websites. I still plan on buying one and have ordered a second one...will see if they get it right this time!

A great single serve brewer for a great price
Benjamin A. Cotten

Purchased mine directly from KitchenAid.I have been on the hunt for a single server brewer that doesn't use those awful Keurig pods. I want to use my own, home roasted coffee and I'm picky about water temperature, spray head design, etc. I'm a coffee professional working in the Specialty Coffee industry. I live a breathe coffee every day. I prefer manual brew methods, but at 7am I want a good cup without the fuss. This brewer has impressed me in that role for sure. This brewer has really fit the bill. The water gets up to the required 200 degrees, the shower head design disperses the water evenly across the bed of coffee, and it brews quickly through a nicely designed brew basket and gold tone filter. The gold tone filter works quite well. I would avoid paper. Aside from the waste, paper filters soak up a lot of the volatile oils in the coffee that provide so much of the flavor - especially in the body of the coffee. The metal filter allows those oils to extract into the coffee giving a more flavorful cup with better body. If you use paper, go with the Filtropa brand. The white ones. The water reservoir is handy. It has a nice handle that lifts up on the top for easy carrying. The carafe/travel mug keep the coffee hot. I use it as a carafe instead of a travel mug. I just know I'll lose it if I take it to the car and I like to keep the coffee hot while I drink a cup waiting for my wife to come get her cup in the morning. It pours very nicely into a regular mug.You can also put your own regular mug under it, but I prefer the carafe/travel mug so that the coffee stays hot inbetween pours. This is just the right portion size. I can make one 12oz cup for myself, or 2 12 oz cups for me and my wife (with a little left over for a partial refill - makes 18oz total at full capacity). This was very well thought out!It is tall, but it will fit under your cabinets (well, most cabinets). You may have to slide it out a bit to remove the water reservoir, but what's the big deal? Every coffee maker I have ever owned required that in order to pour in my water. The drip tray is fantastic. Most brewers don't have them, and that's a shame. KA took a cue from the espresso market and included one on this unit. It's handy and gives it an upscale feel that is appreciated. Some may consider the lack of a timer a negative. Not me. Once you grind your coffee, you start losing noticeable flavor in less than 1 minute. Grinding your coffee and leaving it in the non-air tight brew basket for 8 hours should be a crime! Is it that hard to scoop and grind in the morning?Leaving the timer off is, I'm sure, a big part of why this machine is so affordable. KitchenAid has always been great at including the features you need, and not the ones you don't so that they can build high quality gear at a reasonable price point. And, yeah, the blue light on the front is mesmerizing. What can I say?

Excellent....errr, maybe not
Coffee guy

Really great machine! Coffee is HOT, and flavor is outstanding, never bitter and no funny aftertaste, this really lets the flavor come through. Although I like the design of the Hamilton Beach Scoop better, this KA makes a better tasting cup - I had them both side by side for a week and picked the KA, and returned the HB. I think the cone shaped filter and the showerhead design gives this machine what the HB Scoop lacks - evenly soaked grounds and a nice bold flavor from the cone design vs. the flat bottom HB filter. Build quality seems okay, and the design works quite well - no complaints. I use 5 tbsp's for 16oz. and it's just right. I didn't care for the thermal mug that came with it, seemed to introduce a plastic taste. I found a 16oz Mr. Coffee "Traverse" ceramic travel mug that fits this machine perfectly and this combo is equal to, if not better than anything I get when buying coffee out vs. making it at home, and I'm extremely picky about that.Edit - 3 machines later.... I give up. I really like this machine, but unfortunately it has a fatal flaw. Each of the 3 machines I bought ended up having the same issue after about 3 weeks of use - it's clearly a design flaw. The filter basket hinge is weak, and apparently grows weaker with use due to heat. Eventually it begins to droop, creating a visible gap. But, it's not just cosmetic, although it does look weird. When the gap grows large enough, the filter basket housing no longer makes contact with a switch that's located in the center of the shower head housing. This switch must be depressed by the filter basket to make the brewer work, otherwise it won't get the signal that its okay to send water. So, to make it work you have to manually push and hold the filter basket up to make it brew coffee. Too bad, because I like the coffee and the overall design, but it's back to the drawing board for the engineers at KitchenAid.

The best single cup machine that I've seen so far
Mark D. Schnittman

My main coffee maker is a Cuisinart. Using high-quality beans, grinding my own, I have perfected the art of making coffee -- to my tastes, at least. I tried a number of other single cup machines, and this one is the closest to my normal weekend pot. It is really just a smaller version of my main machine: cone gold filter, etc. Note that this machine does not have a hotplate, as the coffee is meant to be dispensed into either a travel mug or a regular mug. The temperature of the coffee is hot, without being too much so, and it takes about 3 - 5 minutes to brew a 16oz travel mug when I leave in the morning. I grind the beans and fill the water tank the night before, then just hit the power button as I'm getting ready to leave. The unit seems well made, but be aware that the entire body is metal-colored plastic, and doesn't have the build quality of my full-sized coffee maker (stainless). All in all a good purchase for me. Recommended.

SUPER VALUE & GREAT COFFEE RESULTS
Dr. Dee

This was a replacement coffee maker for a 4 cup MR. Coffee that stopped working. The best feature is it makes 5 cups, so if you are using a larger mug you can get 2 full servings with each pot. The timer is easy to operate and works perfectly. I never used a steel mesh reusable coffee filter before but it works surprisingly well, but it adds one more thing to wash. Even finely ground coffee does not pass through the reusable filter. Paper coffee filters can be used as well. It can be purchased at Linen-n-Things for $15 with their 20% off coupons. A steal-of-a-deal at that price. The only negative about Black & Decker products is replacement parts (glass pot, filter) are generally not available at retail stores and sometimes they have limited availability since models come and go quickly. But for the price of this unit a complete replacement is less than a couple cups of coffee at Starbucks.UPDATE - Dec. 2012 - Well I have had this coffee maker for 5 years now and it is still perking away perfectly. I use it almost every day and it does what it is supposed to do flawlessly, make great tasting coffee. Some complain about the glass pot dripping when pouring the water into the maker, but if you are right handed and pour into the left side any drips will fall into the reservoir and visa-versa if left handed. The clock is still accurate and never needs updating, except for time changes. The original glass pot still has the cup markings with no fading and it is placed in a dishwasher for cleaning. A world class buy!

Great but needs more heat!
SassySassy1

For the price and the features, I don't think you can beat this little guy. My only complaint is that the coffee is not as hot as I'd like it to be, even as soon as it's done brewing. It's not hot, more like warm to very warm. Other than that, it's a great little unit. Just the right size, and very user friendly.

GoodLlittle Device
Harold Spriesterbach

Does a good job as advertised. Though billed as a 5 cup maker, realistically makes 2 full coffee mugs of freshly brewed coffee with a little left over for a warm-up.For people who complain of leakage or dribbling, you must raise the lid with your thumb when pouring. If the liquid touches the lid, any coffee maker pot will leak. This is especially true when refilling the reservoir because we all tend to just dump the water in. Take this simple step and the frustration disappears.

Works great! I'm happy
Andy

I didn't realize that buying a thermal coffee maker would be such a dramatic ordeal after reading all the reviews. I thought buying a machine would be straightforward... Alas, I finally ended up with this one.Pros:Krups brandSimple to programSolid carafe - easy to pour (even with the weird lip and almost having to turn upside down it pours nicer than my glass carafe on my Capresso)Keeps coffee hot and brews hotNice clean lookWater filter (and neat little change reminder on it)No floaty ball thingy to clog up and force coffee all overWater indicator easy to read and pretty coolQuiet and no stupid beepsNot so pros:Filling with water does require a separate vessel. Not the end of the world, but it would be easier to just grab the carafe.Carafe does not seal air tight - so if you want coffee 5 hours later - well, probably gonna leak out the heat (although after 4 hrs it was still pretty warm/borderline hot)Had plasticy smell in first two brews - seems to have gone away nowPouring out the last bit of coffee does require holding it weird, but not a horrible disaster or anythingOverall, I'm quite happy. I looked at tons of reviews and different pots and this seemed to be most solid, simplest and best fitting to me. I've been paranoid about overflows that everyone talks about with the thermal pots and hope that is not the case with the Krups. So far so good, I'm happy.

Nice machine
Anthony Hill

I purchased this machine when there were no reviews, which I typically do not do. But my old machine died and we needed a new one. I have had other brands and Krups has never disappointed.I gave it 4 stars because it is better than 3. I'd call it 7 out of 10.My old machine was just that - old. Perhaps 7-8 years old. I liked that it had the water fill line one the side and that the program/on/off buttons were manual rather than digital. This way I could leave it on timer all the time. This machine has a very small water fill line/indicator. It only indicated 2 cups at a time. I used to like to brew 3 cups because that filled my favorite mug. Can't do that here unless you just guess. The carafe is weird because when the top is locked on, it is in pour mode. To take it out of pour mode and presumably lock in the heat better, the top is not locked on so it could fall off or whatever. Not like it is on there tipsy, but I would think it is better to have it locked tight to hold in heat. This hasn't been a huge issue, but I find it curious. The two timers are awesome if you don't have a consistent schedule every day. It has a wacky screen connected to the filter bucket that you pour the water through. Not sure the purpose of that.I noticed one review after I bought it - the carafe is not meant to pour in the water. You need to use a pitcher or something else. We have always used a pitcher to pill it up so this would never be an issue for us.You can't go wrong with Krups. Probably on the expensive side, but it makes great coffee. When you are paying 12 or more per pound, you want a good machine to brew it.It isn't perfect, but pretty darn good.

Ok Machine...
KRR

I almost drove myself crazy trying to find a new coffee machine after my original Hamilton Beach Brewstation started leaking after 7 years of daily use. The reviews on coffee machines are generally horrible and I chose this one simply because of the brand and the fact that it had NO reviews to psyche me out about buying it.I have owned this machine for about 2 weeks now. It is an ok machine, with a few minor flaws. The Good:One problem I was having when finding a new machine: cord length. I returned 2 Cuisinart machines because the cord was too short to reach the outlet from where I needed it on the counter. This machine has a long enough cord, with length to spare. It is a very nice looking machine and does not take up a lot of room on my counter. It does not have a hot plate, which is comforting for me (no risk of fire). The carafe keeps the coffee warm for quite awhile. I left a pot in the carafe one morning, it was still pretty warm (not hot) when I arrived home from work around 5pm. This was WITHOUT pre-warming the carafe. It brews FAST.Love the dual timers, and the clock is very bright. Not crucial, but convenient. The coffee is alright, not great, defiantly not bad.The Bad:As mentioned by other reviewers, the carafe/lid is just strange. The carafe has a round hole right in the middle of the top, there is no spout to pour. You can never get all of the water/coffee out without turning the carafe completely upside-down and shaking the carafe. The water port is in an odd spot. I have to turn the machine to fill it, and you can't use the carafe to fill if you want a full pot, because of the carafe-spout issue. I usually use bottled water anyway, so I just pour straight from the gallon. The Aroma mode makes HORRIBLE coffee, even with a small pot. There is a SLIGHT amount of leakage at the hole in the carafe top when brewing, I think from when it first starts brewing and is pushing the steam through with high pressure. It has not been an issue and is very slight, and HAS NOT gotten worse, which is the case with most other machines I read reviews on.It is over $100, which I do not understand. Reading coffee machine reviews made me realize that there are serious issues with all brands and price points. If I buy $100 shoes, they usually would be better quality than $25 shoes. I guess coffee machines are not like that :)All and all, this is a good machine. Not great, but good. And considering I read every review of hundreds of coffee machines and they were AWFUL, this one seems to be alright. I loved my old Hamilton Beach Brewstation (which also gets horrible reviews), but this will be an adequate replacement.

Fit the Bill!
Alan Wilhite

I was looking for a 4 cup coffee maker, with a cone filter, with a glass carafe, and if it was in red it would match the other red items in my kitchen. So I ordered this coffee maker. Not only did it meet all the criteria, it makes good coffee, takes up very little space, and is a bargain price. The only thing I wish for is an automatic shut off timer. Other than that, perfect!

Perfect for an individual
Paula

The title claims "switch espresso coffee maker." It's basically just your regular coffee maker. There's only one switch on the machine (on and off).Pros:-Small and compact (fits right under the cupboard)-Comes with the permanent filter-Really fast-Easy to cleanCons:-No automatic shut off*Would definitely recommend to any solo coffee drinker like myself.

Red is hot!
Daliasnbloom

It's small enough to meet my coffee needs, but the impact in color greatly enhances the decor of my kitchen!

I bought this machine because of the option to make smaller amounts of coffee instead of always having to make 12 cups. When I set it up at home, I started playing around with the functions and learned it has options to pre-program to my travel mug or my "Sunday morning" mug. All I do is press a button and it dispenses the exact amount!! It keeps my coffee hot, thanks to the stainless steel carafe. Really easy to use and program. Plus, it looks sleek on my countertop!

Enjoying my Cup On Request
Kimberly Miller

Here's what I love about this machine:1. I use organic coffee filters, regular coffee and I don't have to feel guilty about throwing away pods.2. I can manually adjust how much coffee it pours.3. I can set it to make the coffee "strong" or regular.4. The ability to make a pot of coffee, run the kids to school, get home and see that the coffee has been on for 12 minutes - and it's piping hot when I make a cup!5. When I'm not using it for coffee, I use it to keep water hot for four hours. This way, I'm seconds away from a hot cup of tea or hot chocolate for the kids. Here's what I like about this machine:1. The adjustable tray. Is it the most sturdy thing on the market? No. Does it hold a cup of coffee? Yes. Should it do more than that? I don't think so. Does it look cheap? No. Does it feel cheap? Arguable.2. Coffee tastes fresh brewed for about three hours. Never have I been able to keep a pot of coffee ON for three hours and not have it taste like an ashtray. Once you go beyond the three hour mark, it does start to "age", but it's still in my opinion better than the alternative. Here's some thoughts on improving the next model:1. Cone filter. It's the standard for most Krups machines and I had a boatload of filters from my old machine that are now serving as paper hats for my daughter's dolls.2. The carafe itself. We had friends over and blew through the 12 cups. I needed to put on an oven mitt to pull the internal carafe out. Also, seems like the handle should have a little more oompfh to it.3. The filter holder. When I remove it to discard the grounds, it drips. Now, if I'd just remember to pull the can over, no big deal. But inevitably, I forget, carry the holder to the trash can and then later wonder how drops of water got on the floor.I had a Keuring, didn't like it (coffee was too weak, cost of pods was a bit much given what I can get a bag of D&D for at Costco) and boxed it back up. The KM9008 is not a pod-type coffee maker and those certainly add the "I want it NOW" convenience. But, after trying out the Krups Cup on Request, the Keurig is being returned and I'm sticking with my Cup on Request.

Nice coffee maker!
Cheryl O.

I got this to replace my old cuisenart coffee on demand maker. The coffee tastes WAY better made in this maker! I am a serious coffee drinker, use good quality coffee and I like it strong, usually use French roast. I like the stainless steel coffee chamber much better on this model over the mostly plastic chamber in the cuisenart, although its not a thermal container, the coffee doesn't get that burnt taste if you leave it on for a couple of hours like the cuisenart maker did. Easy to clean and set up the coffee and it looks nice. I like makers with thermal carafes, but we don't like messing with a carafe, so these kind of makers work for us best. My only compliaint so far, have only had it for a couple of weeks, but we use is every single morning and some afternoons, is that it is advertised as a "12 cup" maker. I use a big measuring cup to hold the water I put in the maker and it clearly shows that this maker only holds 8 cups of water. This is not enough for me to send it back as I am otherwise super happy with it, but I was disappointed by this as 8 cups only makes about 4 large mugs of coffee, not that much for "coffee-aholics" like my husband and I are!!
