Item Info

Has there ever been a coffee system in more dire need of re-invention than the drip system? It's almost become a synonym for bitter, bad tasting coffee. Well, no more: There is a whole new thinking behind the BISTRO electric coffee dripper - the convenience of it being the only common ground. Let's start with the removable water tank: due to a powerful spiral heating element the water comes close to a boil and - with a glass pipe transporting it over to the coffee filter - doesn't lose much heat. The water gets distributed evenly over the ground coffee through an easy to clean shower head made of plastic and silicone at an ideal temperature of well over 90?C. The filter - titanium-plated stainless steel and finely meshed - keeps the coffee pure in taste, no paper filter needed. From here the coffee drips into a plastic thermos with a double-wall stainless steel interior and stays warm - no heating element needed. The thermos comes with a spout that keeps the heat where it belongs: with an easy press of a finger it opens only for pouring. The BISTRO comes with various safety features: it only turns on with the jug in place, and the handles of the jug and the filter are made from heatresistant silicone. The compact body of the new BISTRO is made from rubber-coated plastic and, despite its 1.2l/40oz capacity, doesn?t take up much space on the kitchen counter. It even looks good from all angles - in all the various colors it comes in. Dimensions: Depth  8.75 inWidth  12.25 inHeight  15.75 in

Not worth it - why would it be?
Don W

Bought this for Christmas as we needed a new maker and I wanted a really good one. After unpacking I couldn't figure out what the "magic" was - it has a base with water reservoir, a filter, a carafe, and one on/off button, that's it. Now it's February and I still can't figure out why this thing is being sold. Maybe the gold filter or well-insulated carafe add some cost, but I haven't seen it do anything a $20 Mr. Coffee can't do. The filter works OK - lot of grounds in the coffee as others have reported so yes, that makes it more like french-pressed coffee, if grounds in your cup is why you drink french-pressed coffee. The design does make the filter easy to rinse out after making a pot. The carafe is nice and keeps the coffee warm for 3 hours. But at at the root of everything this machine just drips water over coffee. This is a very large maker so doesn't fit well on the counter under cabinets - you can't pour water into the reservoir since it's too tall. This maker is 15.5" tall and my cabinets are 18.5" above my counter, so it's even difficult to remove the water reservoir to refill it, which is a pain in the first place. And you get to do that for every pot. I repositioned to an open stretch of counter, although I did like where the old maker was under the cabinets. The design is also a bit lacking in that you need to pull out the filter before pulling out the carafe or it drips coffee across the base, which has a channel in it that can't be cleaned. Maybe not so bad on the black color but is apparent on the white, and it gets coffee on the bottom of the carafe when you put it back (probably a habit I need to do away with since this doesn't have a heating plate so there's no need to replace the carafe in the base). It makes coffee pretty fast, and the coffee tastes good. I'm not a taste expert but I do use good coffee and grind the beans myself, and went for a drip maker because I don't like the taste of Keurig-made coffee. However, even though the taste is much better than Keurig, I wasn't jumping up & down with joy after my first cup from this maker. If I had it to do over I would never purchase this coffee maker - it does a good job dripping water over coffee but is just not worth the price.
