The Brew Cone is wonderful...mmmm...freshly brewed coffee for every cup.The Travel Mug is another story all-together. The seal on the lid is tenative at best. Mostly leakes coffee with every sip. I won't use the lid anymore. Otherwise it's a pretty mug.

I purchased the Travel Mug Coffee Maker for my87 year old mother. She enjoys a good fresh cupof coffee in the morning and does not like the hassleof using the coffee pot for a single cup. She has usedthe brewing cone several times and enjoyed it immensely.The mug, however, is totally useless. The first mug wereceived had to be returned. The lid only rested on the topof the mug. It did not attach in any way. We returned itfor a replacement which is only a slight improvement. Thisone gives a good impression of a lid that will stay put butis totally untrustworthy. My mother can not count on it to protecther from a cup of hot coffee spilling on her lap. Shebrews the coffee in a regular mug and will probably use theMelitta Mug to root cuttings. This said, I would purchasethis item again, recognizing that the brew cone is all that I amgetting to make it worth the price.

I like the coffee making part of the coffeemaker, but, like many reviewers have said, the lid is VERY loose. If the lid is on right, you can drink from it without dribbling down your chin, but it doesn't take much to knock the lid off of the cup. The cup itself looks good, and fits in my car cup-holder (a big plus, compared to those that have handles that get in the way).Overall, you can't beat the price for what you get. And you can use the coffeemaker top on any other travel mug. Melitta just needs to figure out how to make the lid a little tighter.

I read the reviews prior to purchasing this coffeemaker. We knew about the leaking around the bottom, but from one of the reviews we thought it could be easily fixed.When the coffeemaker arrived, the first thing I did was tighten the screws as described in one of the other reviews. Put water in the container and it leaked badly. I then tried food grade gasket paste but that did not stand up to the heat. So I found a good grade ruberized gasket that would work. Okay, the coffeemaker could now finally make coffee.The coffee was strong, hot, and good. Has an automatic shutoff after two hours. The container it brews into is not air tight, but the coffee was still good enough the next day that you could nuke it and enjoy it.One big minus was that if you used the reusable metail filter you had to have it centered perfectly - and I mean perfectly - to keep grounds from going into your coffee. For some reason, the brew basket is much bigger than the filter and you have to align it by eye.The coffee maker worked for 6 months and then the rubber gasket wore through. I could not find another one. Only 6 months of use out of this coffeemaker that has an obvious engineering defect straight from the manufacturer. (They put a metal plate at the bottom of the "bucket" that the coffee brews into. The metal plate is warmed from underneath to keep the coffee hot. However, when they attach the plate to the plastic bucket they use 4 screws; and nothing else. This is where it leaks. There is no way to tighten 4 tiny screws into plastic enough to make the connection watertight. The manufacturer really messed this one up.)You will be disappointed if you purchase this product. I would recommend you purchase something else.

i bought this to replace my cuisinart coffee maker..... what a mistake.... the only reason why i bought it is because it says commercial. this is not a commercial coffee maker... i should have figured that out with the price also. it is very poorly built... is all plastic if you move it the wrong way it will brake no doubt about that. the coffee resevoir spills out coffee when pouring and after pouring it drip. this did not last 1 week i returned it. thanks to amazons great return policy i had no problems and got my money back.

When I first reviewed this product, I had used it for nearly 2 weeks and was satisfied. However several days ago I noticed the coffee maker was making an odd noise when brewing. I realized that the machine was leaking and dousing the heating element with water, making lots of concerning hissing and crackling noises. The water then leaked out the bottom as well. I only wish I'd read the reviews before I purchased this machine.UPDATE: I contacted Hamilton Beach and the customer service lady said that reports of leaks were common, so they sent me a new coffee maker. Too bad the new coffee maker leaked as well! It had the exact same problem of leaking on the heating element and out the bottom.I called again to ask for a refund and they refused. Instead they are sending me a 3rd coffee maker. Now suddenly this second customer service lady insisted that leaks were not a common problem.Also, I have noticed that there are new 5-star reviews of this unit which claim that those of us who left 1-star reviews are "lazy" or that the leak is "user error". One has to wonder why these reviewers are taking this so seriously, and why they're using their reviews to attack others.Long story short, I highly recommend you save yourself some trouble and some money - avoid this machine!

After about 3 months the switch started clicking inside when it wasn't in use. At first I thought nothing of it. Then I started noticing it was hot when I went to make a pot of coffee even though I hadn't been home all day. As time has passed (over the course of the last month) the heat (when off) has been rising. This is ironic since it wouldn't make a "HOT" cup of coffee in the first place.I've been unplugging it recently when I'm not using it to be safe while waiting for my new one to arrive (definitely not made by HB) and in the past week I've forgotten to unplug it twice. I've come home to open it to STEAM and IMMENSE heat to the tune of the used filter being black at the top from being cooked. I would definitely stay away from this lest you want a fire to erupt. Today marks the last pot of coffee I'll have from this coffee maker.

I got the coffeemaker for christmas '08, it is now Jan. 09 and it will not dispense coffee with the urn thing on the maker, you have to remove it from the base and quickly place it over the cup b/c it starts pouring coffee. you don't have to worry about getting burned b/c the coffee doesn't stay hot in this thing anyway, so SAVE YOUR MONEY! THIS THING IS JUNK!

The one thing I want in a coffee maker is that it makes good coffee. This one does. I have used it daily for several months now.I vastly prefer a cone-shaped filter to a flat-bottomed one because it gives better extraction. The primary reasons I chose this one were the shape of the filter and the four-cup size.I'm sure that some folks will say it feels flimsy -- but I consider that minor. I've had coffee from much more expensive machines, and I agree with Cook's Illustrated -- most drip coffee makers will turn expensive grinds into indifferent coffee, especially if you make less than a full pot. I vote for this one.

This coffee maker does the job but there are two things I was not happy with. First of all, the product pictured here is supposedly no longer available, after talking to the dealer. The model pictured here looks space age and super-sleek; what arrived was an older model which is NOT all white(has a black handle and black top) and not as modern-looking as this one. That was my first disappointment. The second one is the black coffee cup; I don't know why on earth they could not build it in such a way that once you put the basket it, in stays in place. Previous models have offered that; why not this one? Baffling. It does the job but was not what the picture offered and has some minor flaws, imho.

I've owned an earlier version of the Hot-Shot Beverage Maker for eons, and it still works well after all these years. My husband and I prefer it to the automatic kettle we tried because it's so much faster; even with heating two batches of water if we need more than it holds, it's still faster and more convenient for us. We traveled with it and an assortment of instant foods back when we could afford gas for road trips. We bought a second one for my in-laws' cabin, have given several as gifts, and been asked by friends where they can get one. It's more expensive than I think something like this should be, but I like it so well it's worth it.

The Hot Shot water heater is great for making hot beverages. I purchased it for my office where we use it daily, but there is one flaw. We use 12 oz. cups and they don't fit properly under the dispenser. I ordered the 16 oz. Hot Shot machine and the water dispenser is slanted downwards therefore, making it hard to place the cup under it. The dispenser should be a little higher to accommodate the 12 oz. cups. Not worth it - why would it be?

Bought this for Christmas as we needed a new maker and I wanted a really good one. After unpacking I couldn't figure out what the "magic" was - it has a base with water reservoir, a filter, a carafe, and one on/off button, that's it. Now it's February and I still can't figure out why this thing is being sold. Maybe the gold filter or well-insulated carafe add some cost, but I haven't seen it do anything a $20 Mr. Coffee can't do. The filter works OK - lot of grounds in the coffee as others have reported so yes, that makes it more like french-pressed coffee, if grounds in your cup is why you drink french-pressed coffee. The design does make the filter easy to rinse out after making a pot. The carafe is nice and keeps the coffee warm for 3 hours. But at at the root of everything this machine just drips water over coffee.This is a very large maker so doesn't fit well on the counter under cabinets - you can't pour water into the reservoir since it's too tall. This maker is 15.5" tall and my cabinets are 18.5" above my counter, so it's even difficult to remove the water reservoir to refill it, which is a pain in the first place. And you get to do that for every pot. I repositioned to an open stretch of counter, although I did like where the old maker was under the cabinets. The design is also a bit lacking in that you need to pull out the filter before pulling out the carafe or it drips coffee across the base, which has a channel in it that can't be cleaned. Maybe not so bad on the black color but is apparent on the white, and it gets coffee on the bottom of the carafe when you put it back (probably a habit I need to do away with since this doesn't have a heating plate so there's no need to replace the carafe in the base).It makes coffee pretty fast, and the coffee tastes good. I'm not a taste expert but I do use good coffee and grind the beans myself, and went for a drip maker because I don't like the taste of Keurig-made coffee. However, even though the taste is much better than Keurig, I wasn't jumping up & down with joy after my first cup from this maker. If I had it to do over I would never purchase this coffee maker - it does a good job dripping water over coffee but is just not worth the price.

Good looking, easy to use, great coffee. Using the "strong" setting we use about 1/3 less coffee than in out old coffee maker. No bells or whistles, just a good inexpensive machine.

The only feature I like about this coffee maker is the stronger/weaker brew setting as we do like the stronger brew but even at that it isn't worth the money! It is a little more difficult to fill the water reservoir without spilling everwhere. Can't pull the carafe out mid-brewing to fill our cups without a mess everywhere. It was more money and I have had better luck with the cheaper versions. Don't waste the money on this coffee maker..... you'll be sorry! I buy products/books on Amazon by the stars and comments from people.... I'm only telling the truth as I see it! Beware!

This coffee maker lasted a few weeks, then parts fell apart and coffee poured outside the pot. It is truly amazing that this coffee machine ever made it to the market. The filterholder especially is the worst piece of idiotic design and deserve a special price on its own. Obviously you need to give it at least 1 star to post this review but it does not deserve it.

If I could have waited for delivery, I'd have purchased this from Amazon. I don't know a coffee drinker who will even wait for a day, much less up to two weeks for a coffee maker. That said, this would make a great gift for any occasion.I've only had this coffee maker for two weeks but that's time enough to discover quirks that might make it unappealing to others.The coffee maker I replaced was the Mr. Coffee, IS series. It was great while it lasted, but it only lasted four years. I expect more for my money than that.To comapare the two above mentioned models, both brew great coffee, and the B&D CM5050 brews 12 cups in ten minutes, where Mr. Coffee took twelve. That's a plus if you don't use the auto brew.The B&D has a big digital clock; the Mr. Coffee had a hard-to-read analog.B&D allows you to set your brew strength, but if you like "strong", it defaults back to "regular" at the end of the brewing cycle, so it must be reset with each new brew. Mr. Coffee saved the option; I liked that.Mr. Coffee allowed a temperature control for the hot plate (a plus in my book), B&D doesn't, and the coffee is scalding when you pour it. Mr. Coffee also has a special cleaning cycle, this B&D doesn't.The permanent coffee filter in the B&D is a great addition. I hesitated using it because of my poor experience with permanent filters. If you've rejected the use of these permanent filters because of a fine silt that settles in the bottom of the carafe, this permanent filter allows none of that. Use it; it will save money on paper filters.I haven't used the 1 - 4 cup brewing feature. I brew a full pot in the morning, and never drink coffee for the remainder of the day.My main complaint with B&D is the preset warmer plate, but all other aspects are either equal or superior to the Mr. Coffee. So, it's a matter of personal choice. I would have been happy to buy another Mr. Coffee, but I really expected a longer lifespan.When I went "pot shoping", the B&D won because it was $10 cheaper, and I was already disappointed with the premature death of my Mr. Coffee. If this brewer dies at four years, I'll look for a new model. So far, I'm pleased with what my money bought.

The coffee maker itself works great but the carafe is absolutely the worst I have ever had. You need to have a kitchen towel under it or you had better pour your coffee over the sink. I have resorted to using a pitcher to fill the water reservoir instead of the carafe to avoid water all over the place but what do you do once the coffee is made? Anyway--I would not recommend this coffee maker. Definitely a waste of $50.00!!!!

Totally agree with N MESSMORE... a miserable messmaker from an otherwise reputable manufacturer. And I called B&D Customer Service to be told it was my fault... I needed to pour more slowly. So I did. And still had a coffee puddle. And No, they will not send a carafe of better design either. Sorry. Don't waste your money here.

Great no frills coffee maker

I bought this coffee maker to replace an old 12 cup in which the craff broke. I have a small kitchen with limited counter space so this coffee maker fits great less counter space used and looks real nice with the tangerine color even the cord is tangerine. I am visually impaired so I need a simple basic coffee maker and this works well for my needs (a 55 retired man who on has about 20% vision) and is very easy to clean. The coffee is fine not to hot taste good for the basic American cup of Coffee.The one minor draw back was the basket appears to be a cone shape but has a flatten side so my cone filter won't work with it so I had to go to paper filten which is OK I don't have to clean reusable filter any more.Bottom Line:I have had this coffee maker a month now and it looks like a keeper. The coffee brews fast and has a nice temperature. Good for retirees an office of RV or anyone who doesn't need all the clock timers etc.

Was looking for a smaller, lower cost coffee maker, and the list of potential good ones is pretty small. To my surprise, this makes far better tasting coffee than our main coffee maker (Cuisinart).Note: Am a huge coffee snob... light roast, single, small batch beans.To be honest, coffee from this maker tastes better than any other I have ever had. Not sure if it is the temperature, or the choice of materials, or some magic thing, but is works.

This is not a review that's really going to make you change your mind on buying this coffee maker. There's nothing special about it, good or bad. It's a discount-type drip coffee maker. I purchased it because my previous, equally inexpensive coffee maker finally gave out on me. Everything on this model works as it should, and since that's what you're looking for if you're thinking about picking one up, it's certainly adequate for a daily hit of caffeine.
